Buttercup 14334 | Subject: EEEWWW pedophile gets creative with internet Disgusting pig disguising himself as a teenage boy, met teenage girls in chat rooms, sent them a photo file of a boy with a virus attached, allowing him to take control of their computers. Then he would threaten, blackmail and intimidate the girls into sending revealing photos of themselves. Loathsome creature is going to jail. http://itn.co.uk/news/headlines_5cb75a85aafbfbb3a8a9eabc65723378.html |

Here in Indiana a little girl was killed after observing two scums making some meth. The two pled guilty and off they went to prison. The little girl's cousin happen to be in the same area of the prison, and apparently they held one of the killers down and 'prison' tattooed "Katie's Revenge" entirely across this guy's forehead - talk about poetic justice The State of Indiana is now in the process of removing the tatoo (KR.jpg) Attachments ---------------- KR.jpg (1KB - 10 downloads) |

Runner | Subject: RE: EEEWWW pedophile gets creative with internet This brings up a number of interesting points, though, especially in terms of home computer security. Chief among them is if you give your kids access to the computer, you're better off giving them their own account, and severely restricting their rights. Namely, they cannot install anything. Also, and I don't understand this, but I'm not a parent, is the whole IM thing. I have used them, I have seen what goes on in the chat rooms or whatever, and I know I wouldn't want anyone below age 18 going on one of those things. That being said, I know that most IM clients and chat rooms aren't as targeted by predators anymore, because it's too easy to track the conversations and the people. In terms of things like MySpace, I posted an article a couple months back from Wired Magazine. In it, the author (Kevin Poulson, well-known hacker and writer) created a script that scanned all the MySpace pages for known pedophiles. He found several. This took him maybe a month, maybe less (I forget the details). |

This is exactly what we do. And nothing deters the potentional for inappropriate behavior more than having the computer in the middle of the livingroom with everyone around. |

Elite 2733 Venture Industries, | Subject: RE: EEEWWW pedophile gets creative with internet As a prosecutor that specializes in the prosecution of sex crimes against children here are some tips: 1. Be aware of who your kids friends are, and the friends families. 2. Don't abdicate your parental role to anyone. 3. Set rules for your kids. 4. be a parent first and a parent second and a parent third and a friend fourth 5. Great idea to keep the computer in a common area not in the childs bedroom', and if the kids on the computer look over their shoulder from time to time. 6. No reason for a camera on your kids computer. 7. spy on your kids. Contrary to what kids believe they have no privacy rights under your roof (see rule #4 if you have questions regarding the authority for this) 8. If your gut tells you something is wrong listen to your gut. 9. learn to be computer savy, your kids are. Search deleted items, cookies, ect. If you find your kids are deleting things often, be suspecious. 10. Know that the FBI hates this type of stuff, and there is a real push to prosecute internet predators. Your local law enforcement will be more than happy to help if you think there is a problem. 11. Talk to your children about the dangers of internet predators. 12. See rule 4. |

If you find your kids are deleting things often, be suspecious. That one stands out most to me. This is probably because I work with computers, but it amazes me at times how much people do not understand the tools they use. I know I can be as guilty of it, too, at times, but there does come a point where you need to invest at least a little bit of knowledge in order to protect yourself. And I don't just mean at home. A little bit of knowledge about using a computer goes a looooong way. And I completely agree with spying. You may even want to go so far as using a key logger. the only trick with that is that it may log your keystrokes as well. On top of all that, use a hardware firewall. If you don't need to be on the internet when using the computer, turn off the modem (applies for broadband users). If you're not using the computer, turn it off, or lock it. Use passwords, ESPECIALLY on your home machine. If you use any sort of accounting program for your finances, or store anything like account numbers, go out right now and get an encryption program and encrypt all your personal data. One of the primary targets for thieves these days is computers. Don't believe me? Look at the number of laptops stolen out of cars in the last year. And most of those were for contractors, who had databases of private data. |

Veteran 266 McAllen, TX | Subject: RE: EEEWWW pedophile gets creative with internet Have you guys seen the Dateline shows about pedophiles? I think they're called "To catch a predator" or something like that. They have somebody pose as an underage teen (mostly a 13 y.o. girl) and arrange dates with older men sometimes posing as kids too. They lure the guys to the house and then the Dateline guy comes out and starts asking them questions to which they give the stupidest answers. Then the pervs try to get out of there and the cops are waiting for them outside and arrest them. The worst part is that many of these guys have seen the show on T.V. before they go to the house. |

As a prosecutor, can you add "Gouging out an eye and skull-f**king them to death" as a potential sentence for the offenders? If there is one thing that crosses a line that can never be forgiven, it's this. Truly an abandonment of their humanity. And being mean to dogs, but that's another discussion. |

The amazing part about that show is WHO happens to be showing up for these supposed hook-ups with minors. It's certainly not always people that viewers are likely to expect. |

Went to an FBI seminar several years ago. They had an agent posing as a 13 year old girl in chat rooms. They had numerous men tryign to lure what they thought was a 13 year old girl to meet them all across the country. Several men actually send money, train tickets, plane tickets ect. The FBI would then go to the train station, bus station, ect and catch the predator. Anyway one of the people that got caught in the sting was a high level Navy officer working at teh pentagon and using his pentagon computer to lure children for sex. He showed up at the airport in his naval uniform. |

One of the primary targets for thieves these days is computers. Don't believe me? Look at the number of laptops stolen out of cars in the last year. And most of those were for contractors, who had databases of private data. This can be very hard to do....especially, if you not up on tactics to beat "security". I can tell you, that it is extremely easy to beat 99.9% of most home network security....Kids are very smart. Hell..you can lock down your network and they can just jump on your neighbors "wide open" wireless network after cracking the password of your pc with a floppy disk. I used to do contract work for a church / school. They were having problems within the network....After a little investigation, it was a 9th grader, writing his own programs (in C) to cause problems all over the place. He had taken control of all computers in the network...even the teachers server, where the grades were kept. As my kids get older, I will be adjusting my home network...Setting it up like I do customers' networks..... defense in multiple layers... They might get through one layer, but they will REALLY have to work to get through it all. You have to do this...they do not fully understand the dangers out there. On a side note.. Someone mentioned MySpace....haha.. I was talking to my brother the other day and some of the Local PDs have accounts set up and they monitor a lot of the kids in the area......Lets just say that some of these kids are not that smart and giving times and dates of illegal actions... haha.
