medic0020 - 2006-12-12 2:52 PM Just curious if anyone will admit to being turned down or it this was an accept all applicants marketing ploy ...

Pretty certain that it is a marketing ploy akin to "Team Javelin" ... but also that it is probably limited in number.

Be careful of the response, it is a pretty plain + skinny white #10 envelop that can easily be mistaken for "junk mail".

I would try and contact their marketing dept.  I sent my application a couple of weeks ago and received an email from them asking for my home address to send the acceptance forms(I forgot to include my street address on the letter itself, just my email address).  So they may have just misplaced your application.  It's worth a shot.  I can PM you with the email address if you'd like.  I think I still have it......

My best guess would be the criteria for "acceptance" is probably much less a result of your race resume, and much more a result of your age group and geography.

The TeamGU 2007 advertisement clearly state limited to 500 individuals--but does not state the first 500.

If I were in charge of this marketing/sponsorship device, I would make sure my 500 "sponsorships" were spread out over the widest geographic area, with good representation amongst all the different age groups.  Wouldn't that make the most sense?

The letter I got back was in no way personalized. Further, I had to fill out my name and address on the return letter when placing my order for package A or B.

Which makes me wonder if I photocopied it and gave it to a friend, who never applied in the first place, and he sent it in with his information, if GU is even checking the information to make sure that the applicant originally sent in a request to be a part of the team

The fact that they simply sent me a photocopied form letter makes me think that theres a good chance one could simply just "slip through" the cracks.

I wouldnt be surprised to see alot of people at the first sprint of the year sporting the GU colors.

That's wierd. I got a personalized letter from a Moritz and my fees waived They must really want me to represent them in my upcoming races.

That would be great if you'd send that address. I'm all about cheap or free right now. Maybe next year I can afford to be picky.

It's amazing how things work. I was going thru some mail at work this morning and had a stack of letters to local businesses that had been returned due to bad addresses, etc. The last one in the pile was a rather plain white envelop which turned out to have my Team GU Acceptance.

I just checked online, the deadline has been extended to December 15th. take advantage while you can. I'm putting something together now.

regarding the Javelin team, It is still going on, since I have just recently received my uniform. I even had to send it back and they sent me another size. It's a great deal on the uniform as well as some other partner products. Unfortunatley, they just aren't very active. The last newsletter (online) was posted in June. They are slow to respond to e-mails and phone calls.

Well, I just got my letter, I am in. I sent it out on Dec 15th. Here's what I wrote;

Hi,

Well my Athletic resume is pretty short and unimpressive. I have done one sprint triathlon, and finished 2nd to last in my age group M 35-39.

However, I have been working out and plan to do 3 sprints and 1 Olympic and possibly a Half Ironman.

If you want folks to see your ads, I am your man. I will be out on the course long after all those fast guys are done.

Well thanks for considering me. Oh and if you want to pay any of my race fees that would be even sweeter.

So Im not to sure how tough the screening process really was.

Now I have to send in my forms by the 31'st.

So does anyone know who's clothing they use and sizing information?
