Pre-race routine:

We usually park a car at the finish then carpool back to the start.
Event warmup:

None.
Run
  • 1h 48m 40s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

I started out ok, trying to take advantage of the flat to downhill portion. Once the hills came it gets a lot tougher. The last 3 miles were a slog -- I was very much out of gas.
What would you do differently?:

Train a little more intensely for the race if I'm concerned about the time. I'm not sure I am though, but it would be nice to break 1:40 some day. That's a lot of training though, but it would be fun to do some day.
Post race
Warm down:

Limp around the finish, gather everyone together and head back to the start to pick up cars.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough "race" training. Lately I've just been putting in non-specific long mileage.

Event comments:

The only things that make this race stand out is that it covers a lot of the Peachtree and Olympic course in Atlanta, and it is on Thanksgiving. Most of us do it so we can pig out later on.

Course: The race covers much of the Peachtree road race, at least the harder uphill parts. My legs were (are) pretty beat up, which tells me I haven't done near enough speed or hill work.

Nice job! Yeah, I agree: Making the rest of the day's pigout as guiltless as possible is a pretty strong motivator for me too. All the raging endorphines at race end put me in a good mood to deal with my relatives for the rest of the day, which is a nice side benefit.

Congrats again.

Jon:

Beating yourself up 'cause of a 1:48 h-mary time is like drinking non-alcoholic beer or decaf coffee  ... what's the point?

Seriously, hope you had a great Turkey Day after earning the right to eat extra trimmings at the race.

For real on what Brian said. A 1:48 half absolutely rocks. Great job!
