Sunny
Total Time = 25m 46s
Overall Rank = 161/495
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 17/31
Pre-race routine:

I woke up about 5:30 and had some coffee and oatmeal. Picked up Dexter at 7:30 and made the 40 minute drive to Brighton. The packet pickup lines were long and slow, plus you had to stand in 2 lines to complete the process, and that was if you were pre-registered. Debated how many layers to remove as it was fairly cool, but sunny and the wind was blowing about 25mph steady.
Event warmup:

Unless you count standing in line and then searching for a rest room a warm up, not much was done. Did some stretching was about it.
Run
  • 25m 46s
  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

I kind of went with the flow for the first half mile as things spread out a little. After that made the turn towards the west and directly into a head wind. This is where things opened up and I could get into a nice pace. Finished the first mile right at 8:00 min/mile. I thought Dexter was still with me when we turned into a nice neighborhood, but it was someone else with a similar wind jacket. After the second mile I realized I had let my pace slip some, but the time in the head wind had taken its toll and I didn't have a lot left to pick it up to where I had wanted to. All in all, considering the wind, and I did set a PB so I am happy. I had also made the right choice in the number of layers.
What would you do differently?:

Other than continue the training and weightloss for next year, not much.
Post race
Warm down:

I met up with Marmadaddy and cheered Dexter in. I guess he had a wardrobe malfunction that set him back a little. Went inside to warm up and chatted with Kam, Robert, Marmadaddy, Dexter, and Brad. Nice folks, I enjoyed the morning.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Condidering where I was a year ago (fitness and healthwise), nothing.

Event comments:

I think the check in process could have been smoother, otherwise not bad.

Hey, it was great meeting you! Nice job running your personal best!!
I can't believe you are in the 40-44 AG!! You look like you'd be in my AG, or at the most the 34-39. Cool!

That was it a wardrobe malfunction from top to bottom.  Great race Ken.  Glad we could get one in this year.  Keep up the good work.  Thanks for driving.
