Drunk as a Skunk Half-Miler - RunOther

The Loyal Order of Texas BT'ers
35F / 2C
Total Time = 05m 45s
Overall Rank = 7/7
Age Group = F 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/1
Pre-race routine:

Arrived at Andy (apw0397) and Shannon's (swatson) around 7:30 for a New Year's party. Commenced the hydration and nutrition(?) program pretty quickly. Lots of story telling, laughing, and playing Cranium.
Event warmup:

See, for me? I like to sample all the items from the aid stations. Started with a beer around 7:45, margarita at 8:30, and finally, champagne with a splash of Triple Sec at 11:00. No gels or shot blocks here...stuffed mushrooms, vension wrapped in bacon, sushi, and the best of all, chocolate-covered cookie dough. Pre-race nap at 11:45, smooch at midnight, and I geared up for my midnight run!
Run
  • 05m 45s

Comments:

The object of the run was to estimate your time to run around the block (approximately .4 miles). For me, I was wearing 2-inch heeled boots, but I did come prepared with a blinky light, hat, gloves and jacket. Marcy, Shannon and I took off from the front porch and headed up the street, hootin and hollerin at neighbors. Made it around the block with little incident, except being freezing cold, but lost out to Steve, who estimated his time the best. Damn those sober people!!
What would you do differently?:

Well, considering this was the inaugural Drunk as a Skunk Half-Miler, I can't say that my hydration was lacking. Nutrition was definitely lacking (quality, not quantity).
Considering I was running with some of my closest friends...not a thing. :)
Post race
Warm down:

Sat around for a few minutes, talking about plans for the new year.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Alcohol, food, boots, cold, need I go on?

Event comments:

The organizers of this race did a fantastic job putting together this event! I highly recommend this one to all Texas BT'ers! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Laurie, this is hysterical.  Happy New Year - may this be the first of many successful races.

Hmm...may want to add that time and distance to your log. Don't want to be skimping.

haha... That is too funny! I have family members that are PoPo in McKinney ( I think they worked that night too). I am sure they would have been more than happy to pace you. haha..

Sounds like you had a great time.
Happy New Year..
