Pre-race routine:

Didn't sleep as well as I'd hoped. For some reason I thought I was going to sleep through my alarm. Not a chance! Had a honey sandwich and half a banana and rode down to St Kilda.
Event warmup:

Thankfully the bay has warmed up significantly so the swim warm up was pleasant.
Swim
  • 14m 43s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt pretty good in the water. It was a little congested initially but after the second marker buoy I had my own space. I drafted for a little while and decided that I was being lazy and picked up the pace. Back into no mans land. I'm always swimming by myself! I was very happy with my navigation today even though coming in the sun was right in the eyes. I feel as though I swam without the extra 50m I usually swim. :)
What would you do differently?:

I'm pretty happy with this swim. What a difference solid training makes. I'm a convert!!
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

A little slow running from the water, but all went smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

Again very happy with this.
Bike
  • 37m 47s
  • 20 kms
  • 31.76 km/hr
Comments:

There was lots of drafting out there today as well as stupid riding. Plenty of crashes.
It's odd because I didn't feel that good on the bike, as salty as my mouth was, I didn't feel like drinking and as a result I think I had 200mL of Gatorade. I had planned to have a Gu, but I didn't feel like that either and look I post my best bike time! As usual I tried to average above 30km/hr, into the wind I managed and with the tail wind got up to 38km/hr.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could have pushed harder with the tail wind, for the first time I got into the big chain ring, but I was afraid that my legs would have nothing left for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

I felt as though I took this slowly. The run with the bike was longer than I had anticipated. I also got a little confused as to where the run exit was, even though I had checked it out when I was setting up.
What would you do differently?:

Believe in myself that I do know the course!
Run
  • 29m 6s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 49s  min/km
Comments:

I felt pretty good considering I'd got into the big chain ring on the bike and had next to nothing to drink. One million competitors passed me and I passed one other. Poor guy. Still the conditions were next to perfect for me, a slight headwind running out, cloudy on the coolish side temp wise and I actually felt alright running.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep running, just keep running.
Post race
Warm down:

Gatorade. Best drink something.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Considering I felt remarkably underdone coming into this race (I'll blame the eat/drink fest that was Xmas and NYE) I couldn't be happier with my result. I thaink I was 2 mins faster than the last race that was 500/20/5. Which is a strong indicator that I was ill that day.

Great race Casie. Your times are looking good on all disiplines. Nice sub 30min for the run, I'm positive you could scrub that long term 10k goal now.

Great Race Casie!  those are great times for all three legs! Nice work with the bike I had the same thing with the salty mouth but not wanting to drink adn I ended up with a good bike time in that race too.

think we might need some photos of one of your races sometime soon!
