Run
Comments: Have had Achilles tendon problems since doing the Miami 1/2 mary a few weeks ago untrained. Have been trying to work on it and strengthen it, but not really running. Felt out of shape, but the tendon didn't really even bother me until about 1/2 mile before the end, where I was also beginning to feel my left quad tighten up. I was going to back off in that last 1/2 mile but I mentioned to someone yesterday that I was probably going to be somewhere in the 23-minute range. When I got to the 3-mile mark, I was 23:08 and I thought, if I push it, I can break 24 minutes. So I really pushed it and passed two women and sprinted beyond them right before the finish. When the volunteer took my race number stub at the end of the race, I was shocked when he told me I was 2nd overall! What would you do differently?: Not have an injury. Post race
Warm down: Lots of light jogging and walking and more stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: Had a really good time. I don't do many races that are just running, so it's different. Saw some friends there, Bob did a really good time for his 10K. Then it was time to get back to reality and go home to get the kids ready for their hockey games! Last updated: 2007-02-10 12:00 AM

Made the coffee, stretched at home, drove to the race site with Bob, who was doing the 10K version of the race.
Jogged around, more stretching, more potty stops, a few sprints, and voila! I'm ready to rock 'n roll!
