Subject: IMAZ 2008- Registration?
I know I am jumping the gun here... but will the IMAZ 08 registration happen on April 16, 2007?

If you do it online, what time does one need to start trying to get in? And... where does one go to register?

Regsitration for IMAZ 07 didn't open until mid-May this year, and took quite a while to fill up (nothing like IMWI or IMLP). When it goes up, there will be a link at www.ironmanarizon.com that will route you to active.com. Have your credit card handy! But if this past year is a bellweather, you've still got a few months.

So, I went to the website... but couldn't find anything about 2008 registration.

What is it that you saw, that doesn't gel with what else was said here?

It won't open until a few weeks after this year's race.  Part of the course goes through an indian reservation so city officials get together with reservation officials to discuss how things went and if any changes need to be made.

This is what I heard as well, plus they are going to be moving the race to the fall (Don't know when) so don't have your heart set on an April race.

    Right. I heard that too.

If so... then they are going to have an IMAZ Fall 2007.... and then Fall 2008. So basically, 2 IMAZ's in 2007.

I would OK with that. Yea, the wait would kill me, but I dread having to do all of my training during the winter months.

I would think they would announce that pretty soon though... right?

You would think that they would update the website then.

Then again the website also says they will have Gu on the course, but that is also now known to be PowerGels.

Originally I had planned on doing IMAZ '08 if it was a Spring event to go for my Kona qualifying shot.  But I think that I want to do IMLP instead just for the course itself (and not necessarily to go for the Kona slot).

I also think that it may fill up faster than before with the demand for IM events steadily increasing.  I'll luck out if I do try to do it because by postponing the entry instead of having it the day after, it means I don't have to have someone else do it for me since I'll be pounding away in Boston.

Well, I'm going to go with what Jeep said.

I think IMAZ is not as *popular* (aka: doesn't sell out in a day), because unless you live in a state with relatively warm weather most of the year... you have to train in the dead of winter. Which sucks.

Most people would rather do another IM, so they don't have to train in the dead of winter.

I live in Texas, and I am dreading having to train from Jan-April. Those are the coldest months of the year here. Shoot, we even have snow flurries today.

Yep, I see many miles on a trainer ahead of me next year.

IMAZ does condemn you to a large degree of indoor drudgery, unless you're lucky enough to live somewhere that is permanently temperate. Nashville is usually pretty good that way, but seeing as Saturday's high here is 30, and I HAVE to get in my 4h15 ride, it's all trainer, baby.

That is torturous.  I hope you have some good movies to keep you going!

    I suggest NetFlicks!

WOW! That sounds like pure torture!

I know a lady who was training for IMAZ last year... who had to do her long ride, 5 hours, on her trainer.

You guys have minds of steel!

Yes, winter training sux.  I have already done a 3, 4, and 5 hour trainer rides (Computrainer luckily) and have another 4 on the sked for this weekend, which will be indoors again due to the cold.

I'm really dreading it quite a lot. Thankfully, though, I plan on ripping through the following:
    What It Takes
2 episodes of the Simpsons, King of the Hill
Disc 1 Season 2 of The Sopranos

Inspiration, laughing and killing. The cocktail for a passable long ride on the trainer

Pppsssstttt... it won't happen in the Fall of 07... it *might* happen in the Fall of 08... but you can still do IMAZ in April 08.

There will not be a fall IMAZ this year; it's way too late for that. If it happens it will be '08.
