Total Time = 1h 24m 28s
Overall Rank = 14/49
Age Group = Novice
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

After body marking and chip, set up T-area then ran for 5 minutes. I did my normal stretching. I swam for a few minutes to get a feel for the water. Tried to relax at that point.
Event warmup:

See above.
Swim
  • 14h 45m
  • 600 meters
  • 2h 27m 30s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt my technique went out the door after 200m as I was surrounded by others and tried not to bump too often. Lesson learned, trust yourself!
What would you do differently?:

Not look up so often. I looked up (sight)about every 5 strokes and would have been fine every 10-15.
Transition 1
  • 02m 29s
Comments:

Spent too much time in T-1 worried about the little things. Should have just trusted myself again and would have shaved at least a minute.
What would you do differently?:

Moved faster!!
Bike
  • 40h 28m
  • 11.7 miles
  • 0.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Biked better than expected, especially for only training on my bike for 4 weeks. Would still like to train harder on hills though.
What would you do differently?:

More hill training and transition practice.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Faster than expected transition.
What would you do differently?:

Happy with T2.
Run
  • 25h 28m
  • 5 kms
  • 5h 05m 36s  min/km
Comments:

Started with terrible cramps in my inner thighs which caused me to slow down my pace. After those went away, I had a side stitch on my right which transfered to my left side. I ended up running the last 2 miles with a side stitch that slowed me down. I think I drank a little too much water at the turn.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink so much water, work on my inner thigh muscles, and practice with more bricks!
Post race
Warm down:

Food!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramps and lack of lake swimming.

Event comments:

Would do it again. It was my first and I really enjoyed it!

Your times are in the wrong format. For instance, your run time is 28 hours and 24 minutes. really throws off your average pace!

Congrats again!

Hey - great job! I was there and it was my first too.

I however, came in next to last in the male novice division. I really need to spend more time on my bike - plus I ride a hybrid at this point.

I'll be doing the entire series next year!!!!!!! Maybe I'll see you there!
