Hey folks--

I have my cardio music on my mp3 player for motivation while I'm working out, but just getting up and outside or to the gym is sometimes a chore (especially at 5am)

Anyone know of any videos, movies, etc., preferably tri related, that really gets you going while you would rather be sleeping on the couch...

Dick Hoyt youtube clips did it for me a few times, but you can only hear the same story so many times. Even if it is a really good one.

Maybe watch Rocky or the Karate Kid?

Yeah, my first race is 5 weeks away, so theres my motivation.

Not to aound rude, but if you're not motivated, maybe you don't enjoy the sport as much as you think (hope) you do.

I didn't actually participate in this race, but I watch this clip the other day, and following it had a really fantastic bike ride.  Give it a whirl!

Search youtube for "ironman triathlon." There's a clip of the 1st 5 minutes or so of the 2003 coverage. Always does it for me.

Here it is:

H20Rescue - 2007-03-07 6:02 AM Hey folks-- I have my cardio music on my mp3 player for motivation while I'm working out, but just getting up and outside or to the gym is sometimes a chore (especially at 5am) Anyone know of any videos, movies, etc., preferably tri related, that really gets you going while you would rather be sleeping on the couch...
the hoyt videos are great.

i also recommend asking yourself, "is staying in bed getting me closer or further away from my goals?" "is getting up now and running/biking/swimming/lifting getting me closer to or further away from my goals?"

then follow whichever one you answer: "getting me closer to my goals"

5 am is a challenging, ugly, horrible, difficult time in the morning to get up, i agree, ease into it and soon it will become a habit.

I like going to the Ironmanlive web site and looking at the finisher photos.  Seeing the joy of people crossing the finish line, especially with their family in tow, always gets to me.  I especially love the people that finish later in the race, the closer to 17 hours, the more emotional for me.

just have a deadline to finish your masters thesis by friday.  Then you will have boat loads of motivation to go out and run or do whatever.

I second What it Takes. I found it awesome that Peter Reid can't stay up late to watch tv past February because he has to get up early to get in his first of a lot of times 3 workouts for the day. If your whole job is training that takes dedication.

For trainer rides, you can't beat watching Lord of the Rings. (I'll be starting in a few minutes). I also like to watch mountain biking vids while on the trainer.
