For all the BT book loves out there.

What are you currently reading?

What are some of your favorite books?

I'm currently reading, Emperor's Children, Claire Messud, it's okay. She's a good writer but the story line is rather drab.

Faves:

Poisonwood Bible and Prodigal Summer, both by Barbara Kingsolver

Siddharta, Herman Hesse

The Red Tent, Anita Diamant

Life of Pi, Yann Martel

The Alchemist, Paulo Coehlo

Into the Forest, Jean Hegland

I jut finished the Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, great perspective on some things you wouldn't really think about.

One of my favorite books is a Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Very Funny.

I am currently reading the bible. I am trying to figure out all this religion stuff and am going to the core to start my research. The Old Testament is some tough reading. I read a primer on Buddhism on the plane a few months ago and that was much easier reading.

I love that book. It's on the floor by my bed, in the queue to be re-read in the near future.

I used to think John Candy (RIP) would make a perfect Ignatius.

Currently reading:

"Gates of Fire"- Historical Fiction. The battle of Thermopylae told from the point of view of a Spartan slave who survived the battle. Probably not your cup of tea

"On Call in Hell"- I was walking by the "just released" table at B&N and see a picture of a friend of mine on the cover of a book.  Turns out the surgeon from the last battalion I deployed with recieved the Bronze Star w/Combat V for setting up an aid station in the middle of Fallujah during the battle and wrote a book about it.  He's come a long way from sticking us with IV's after a hard night of boozing   It must be a pretty good read because Chippy was on page 2 and sobbing.  I still haven't had a chance to get it from her yet.

"The Alexandria Link"- Not really sure what it's about yet.  Something about the Library at Alexandria.  Seemed to be kind of light and along the lines of The DaVinci Code, and after the 2 above, I really need something light.

One of my favorite books is a Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Very Funny.

Classic. Even more fascinating is that the author committed suicide and the manuscript was just lying around and his mom took it to a bunch of publishers and it was rejected. Finally a professor read it and was astounded and ensured that it got published.

Cheers

I just finished Heart Shaped Box and it was actually decent.  The ending was a little campy, but otherwise, it was a good read.

OK, I've got it.  I tried, I really did, I just couldn't get through more than 10 pages......

Last great book I read was Rory Stewart, The Places In Between, about a (mostly) solo walk across Afghanistan in 2002 or so.
