Total Time = 2h 02m 22s
Overall Rank = 234/631
Age Group = F20-24
Age Group Rank = 4/12
Pre-race routine:

Arrived at 6:00 am. Rode bike to transition. Set-up transition, body marked, picked up chip, ate granola bar and clif bar, and pb crackers. Had a gatorade, oj, and drank water. Sat around forever in the dark.
Event warmup:

Did not warm-up. Walked the quarter-mile to the swim start. I was in the 7th wave so had to wait awhile.
Swim
  • 19m 42s
  • 850 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Shoulders a little tight from previous day riding 100 miles at HHH in Wichita Falls. Basically though, I am a horrible swimmer. I think my grandma could have beat me out. I will get better though. I think I most definitely have "runner's kick" after reading the article because I have been running for 11 years, cycling for 3, and swimming about 2 years.
What would you do differently?:

I need to devote more time to drills and technique. Do more reading, video watching, and get some coaching advice.
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

No problems in transition area other than people walking in front of me. I guess I just feel that I should be moving fast the entire time. I probably look pretty spastic out there.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 56m 42s
  • 20 miles
  • 21.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good considering the ride from the day before. I usually never get passed, but was passed by a few guys today, but at least I kept any girls (especially in my division) from passing me. Ha ha, of course, after my slow swim, all I do is play chase on the bike, which is actually kind of fun.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Transition went smootly
Run
  • 42m 58s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good. Course was not marked, so I was unsure of what mile I was on. I saw a 2, so I figured that was mile 2 so I kept looking for mile 3. I looked so long that before I knew it I was at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Run at a stronger pace. I kept conserving energy expecting my body to finally give out after a tough weekend, but it never did. I really need to start running harder and getting out of my comfort zone.
Post race
Warm down:

Did not warm-down

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Some tightness from HHH on previous day.
Poor swimming ability

Event comments:

Finished 4th in my division out of 12 (one girl DNF) Good race, will do it again (if I don't have an olympic distance one to do). Yucky water though.

Age Group: 10/12
Overall: 0/631
Performance: Below average
Suit: Uniform
Course: Residential lake. Swam in a T-shaped format. Extremely mucky water, probably the worst I have ever swam in. This was my 3rd open water tri and I really got to experience the whole thrashing and running into people. I got clobbered on my head, but that's just part of the sport. I'll take a little bruising in the water as opposed to a crash in a road cycling race (my road racing days are over, triathlons here I come!)

Thanks so much! This website is great; everyone is so encouraging. I wish I had discovered it earlier. Oh well, I'm just getting started in this stuff. I'm so pumped about training this winter so that I can get more serious about it next season.
