great topic ....i think that age is a factor but also past experience ...meaning, how does your body react after drinking on a normal day when no training is involved?

I drink quite often and haven't really had any problems. On the eve before my 1st marathon, I had 6 beers and was out until almost midnight. But that was no different from my normal Sat. night.

Was fine race day and finished under 4 hours.

This past weekend, I drank both Fridy and Sat. nights and ran 5k both Sat. and Sunday morning. And I even placed 2nd in my age group.

I think the major drawback of alcohol and training (assuming you're not getting tanked, that is) is that alcohol dehydrates you. Whenever I drink I try to match my drinks with water, and it hasn't hurt my performance at all.

Dinner would not be dinner without a good glass of wine. I doubt that one or two glasses of wine could affect my performance one way or the other. Now, a glass of wine at lunch on the other hand puts me to sleep. :-O

Mich Ultra was a sponsor of a tri I just did. Bummer they didn't have beers for us at the finish. Seems like false advertising .

Dave - I do the same thing trying to drink 1 glass of water per i glass of beer

Michelob Ultra had a beer garden set up at theend of the 1/2 marathon I ran yesterday and the beer was free and plentiful ...and there were plenty tossing them down @ 10 am.

Guinness does a body good!

I usually have 1 a day (actually about every other day) and 2 or so each day of the weekend.  But when you have it on tap at home, you MUST partake!!!

getting up at 5 am each morning on the weekends to train prevents you from drinking too much!

A nice Newcastle after a race is the best.

Nothing beats it for me.
