Swim
Comments: I started having some "worry" breathing problems right away. I'm one of those people who get race jitters. It took me about 50 m to regain my pace. I got tired pretty quickly because to date my longest non-stop swim was 500m, so swimming it at a faster pace wore me out. At one point I inhaled some water so i had to race my head and swim to couple of breast strokes to breathe. I was glad to finish! What would you do differently?: Nothing i guess... I wish I had more time to train. If I train harder I can improve my event time by 10 minutes next year. Transition 1
Comments: It was my first real T1. I approximate my time here because I felt somewhat disoriented after the swim so I did nither hit a split button on my watch nor did I sit down on my towel right away which i should have done because i wobbled a lot getting my shirt and pants on (it was cold and windy out so extra layer was a must) What would you do differently?: Sit down to get my stuff on!!! Run
Comments: It was really hard course. At the beginning of the race I thought this event was a best thing because there was no biking portion. What I learned when I started my run that there was no way to reset my longs from burning. From a difficult swim I had to go straight for a hilly run. I managed to position myself in between waves so I ran alone half the course. At one point I made a wrong turn and lost about a minute looking for my way out. The hills started one I turned to the woody part of the course. It literally went up all the way there and half of the way back if it is at all possible... to make matter worst it was a horse trail covered with gravel so i kept sliding on all those little rocks. I switched to walking twice for 20 steps. I was really happy when the volunteer told me that I only had 350 yards to go. It was the best news on the entire day. My husband and my baby sprinted last 100 yards with me ;-) What would you do differently?: Run more hills. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little, drank a little What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough sprint training. My longs were burning! Event comments: Swim Run events are HARDER then Tri's. Last updated: 2007-01-12 12:00 AM

The event took place at 300+ acres of woods ands trails that belong to a private boarding school. The morning of the race I found out that the run will be taking place at very hilly horse trails. Wow! A lot of people who do this event every year shared stories of this "excruciating" run, then the race official told us that it is "ok to mention his name in not such polite manner when we start the hills"... I was in for something I did not expect.
I did not warm up in a pool because i was in a wave C so I did not want to get cold. I just did some typical "swimmer" warm up exercises.
