Subject: Registration is Closed

Registration is now close for Ironman California 70.3.

It sold out in record time this year.

Also, for those who are familiar with the course, the Sand Road was a missing feature from the race last year due to high tides and from the looks of things down at the harbor, it might not be returning.

They are almost done with a new bridge over the San Luis Rey River to replace the temporary road through the river bottom. (Not sure what this will mean for the course) I did notice that the course description has not been updated and still references North Pacific Street. (The Temporary Road in the river bottom)

I will end up down there at some point on a training run and will bring my camera to snap some photos like last year.

jbjboc - 2007-11-07 6:24 AM Looks like i'm in the hardcore group as i'll be running the Surf City marathon on Feb 3rd. My plan is to train hard on the bike and swim as well and head into next season ready to charge!! at least thats the plan........

Guess I'm in the out of my mind group - Surf City half, LA Marathon, Cali 70.3.  See you all then!

I am flying in from Oklahoma and will have a car. I will be arriving thursday and leaving on Tuesday. My pregnant wife will also be coming along, so walking 20 min alone will probably not work. So...based on that, any suggestions on where to stay. In oceanside or around...No more than $100 a night probably.

Who else is going to join this crazy group. Solvang Century on March 8th, then Ralph's at the end. Does anyone else think that would be a bad choice, or a good choice to do Solvang ealier in the month. Thanks.

Hans, I'm in for the Solvang Century.  3 weeks before a half is plenty of time for recovery and, personally, I think the timing is perfect that way.

I did Solvang and then California 70.3 last year.  Solvang's actually good training, since all the hills are in the last 1/2, similar to California

Also doing Solvang this year as prep for IMAZ

I'm not doing the race, but as of right now, I am signed up to volunteer at the swim entry/exit. I'll probably end up volunteering for something else.

mixie - 2008-01-08 1:16 PM Last I had looked there was no way to sign up to voulnteer, but I just emailed about it today since I see they have updated the site.

i"ve never volunteered at a race, what do you suggest? I was thinking Bike aid station?

run station, on the 2nd half of the run course. that's where we (read: I) will need your cheer the most 'cause I'll be wanting to shoot myself ...

And the pretty boys will be in much slower mo there than the bikes. Just sayin.

Ditto - If you have a choice, go for the Mile 1/Mile 12 aid station (out and back course).  Any station you volunteer at other than the turn around you'll see runners 4x since it's two loops out and back.  So I gues the Mile 1/12 station is also the Mile 1/6/6.5/12 station.

Last year, Tom (Madcow) was at the Mile 1/Mile 12 station, and he ran with me for a few hundred yards at the very end.  It was exactly what I needed when I needed it, and got me out of the funk I was in and to the finish line.  I will always be in his debt for that.

This race is sure going to be a lot more fun this year.

Last year I only knew a couple of folks in the race and it helped more than anyone could imagine to see them out on the course. (Especially seeing Chris on the Run a couple of times)

One huge advantage to the looping run course is that you get to see everyone a few times. This year, it sounds like almost all the cool kids are either doing the race, or volunteering for it. (Gonna be lots of familiar faces this time out)

Gonna miss seeing Chris out there this year though but he has bigger fish to fry with IMAZ 2 weeks later

Not sure if anyone has issues getting on base to check out the course before race day. But so everyone knows if anyone would like to get on base and check out the course to let me know. I'm still working on base and though I'm not racing I dont mind getting some of you guys on to check it out. Let me know.

Oh man, I wish I was doing it this year and could ride the course again.  If anyon can, take globalchaos up on the offer.  It's a tremendous benefit to know what's coming and one 90% of the people doing the race don't have

I am starting to think about what to wear. I hear the swim and bike can be cold!

Does anyone have advice from previous years? I am thinking arm warmers, leg warmers, vest. I don't want to ride with too much stuff but I don't want to freeze either.

I would love to hear some thoughts... Thanks!

Really not going to be able to make any calls until you can see a reliable weather forecast.

2007 - arm warmers and tri jersey, no gloves were fine

2006 - arm warmers and jacket were not enough, gloves (from reports)

e prepared for anything, bring extra stuff to the race to make a game day decision

How is everyone's training going? What do your mileage weeks look like? I feel totally unprepared but I am still confident I will enjoy the race.

Training is doing OK. What you need to think, is about the mental part. Last year, when I went to the race, it had been 4 1/2 years of doing nothing but concentrate on work and my new marriage. I had placed maybe 2 months of training. Yes, it was challenging, but I did finish only because I new my wife and my parents where there. For my parents, that was their first time ever seeing a Triathlon.

It's all about you and what you determination is about. You can spend about 4 to 7 hrs a week, the beauty is you can get away with it on the Half. Not the full. Good luck and see you there.

Oh yeah, I also weighted at 278lbs when I finished it last year. Go, and see you at the Finish. Cheers.
