Total Time = 1h 05m 51s
Overall Rank = 36/237
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 10/67
Pre-race routine:

Got bike racked around 5:45, then had a two hour wait until the 7:45 am wave start. Hung around and talked to Paulin.
Event warmup:

Stretched then ran little less than a mile about 20 minutes before the race start. Wound up my speed a few times on the run to get ready for the feel of pushing the speed.
Swim
  • 10m 50s
  • 587 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

My whole goal for the swim today was to not go out too fast and just rely on form and technique to deliver a decent swim time. I've come to realize that pushing too hard on the swim does nothing but slow you down and cause you to hyperventilate.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get into some masters swim classes to improve techinque and become more efficient to lower swim times.
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Felt good about the T1 - Ranked 4th overall.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 32m 21s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 21.33 mile/hr
Comments:

This is the big success of the day for me. Going into last season all I wanted to do was average over 20 mph on a sprint race. Today I actually reached over 21 MPH.....However, I never could have done it if I wasn't running from jackrabbit Peter the whole time!!!
I knew he would catch me, I was just trying to prolong that as long as possible.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

Good transition, ranked 8th Overall!
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 20m 55s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Peter & I dueled it out on the run. I was chasing some guy in my wave, but just couldn't reel him in at the end. He finished 8 seconds ahead of me!
We were side by side on the big uphill. I was able to charge up the hill and drop him, but he caught me on mile three and I just couldn't hold him off.
What would you do differently?:

nothing--BROKE 7 MINUTE PACE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN A TRIATHLON!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Got a few pics with my family, talked to my fellow Tri4Him teammates. We talked about how awesome the competition between the three of us was today. What a blast!! There was just over a minutes distance between the three of us!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to work on faster swim times.

Ken - Great race today! You did so well- you SMASHED your 20 mph bike goal, AND ran sub 7 miles on the run. Very impressive!

What a great, strong finish!

I'd be glad to have a conversation about transition.  I've gotten some pretty good tips over the years

Thanks...this race is a great way to officially start the season.  Fun course and it's great for spectators with the 3 loop bike and passing transition twice on the run.

I thought it was great they passed the transition area so many times too.
I'm all ears on the transition tips. I thought I did really well, but I'm sure I could have done something better.
