ING Bay to Breakers
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 16m 41s
Overall Rank = 5621/11733
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 1199/3112
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 6 actually slept through my first alarm ate a clif bar and drank a bottle of water. Got on BART and arived in SF about 30 mins before the race started
Event warmup:

None not enought room Website says about 23000+ runners but I think there were a lot more.
Saw a group of Stormtroopers, a Tusken Raider, Bobba Fett, and a couple of Imperial Officers as I entered the start corral.
Run
  • 1h 16m 41s
  • 7.46 miles
  • 10m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Took about 10 minutes to get to the start line. First 3 miles just had to go with the flow no room to stay in any kind of grove. Tried to keep pace with a guy wearing an IM Arizona Jersey. He was doing a run walk combo so ended up passing him at about mile 2. Hayes St hill started at about mile 2.5 It wasn't as bad as I remembered it last averaged a 12 min mile for that portion compared to about a 14 min/mile last year.
After the hill the course thinned out enough to get into a little of a groove. HR was in mid to hight zone 2 at this point so I knew I could push it a little bit harder. Saw way to many dudes running naked (1 was too many) Really tried to push it once I hit mile 6 and held a 8:00 min/mile pace for a while but since I didn't drink anything on the course felt a little weak and backed off until I hit the turn to the finish and kicked it in. Ave HR for entire run was upper zone 2 with a high of 198. Could have went harder if there was more room.
What would you do differently?:

Work my way closer to the front to start
Drink on the course
Push myself a little harder
Post race
Warm down:

about a 1/2 mile walk to post race activities

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my weight
little hill training
60,000+ other runners

Event comments:

Fun event Gave us a free timing chip to commemorate it's 95th year More of a 12k party than race

Good job!  Notice you shave some serious time off your 2006 finish too!

Yeah, got to get up to at least the Blue-zone (right behind the seeded runners) if you want to avoid the congestion delays of the crowds.  That means arriving 60-75 min. early.\

How was the "Footstock" party?  I wish I coulda stayed.
