Subject: Yoga challenge
Hi all,

I used to be a three-times a week Bikram yoga gal, but since moving to Puerto Rico the studios here are too expensive and (embarrassingly) I haven't been able to motivate myself to do yoga at home. I just want a challenge buddy to help me get off my butt and do at least 10 minutes of yoga a day. Maybe we could make it 1 hour per week or something. I know this isn't very "challenging" but hopefully someone bites!

I just bought a new yoga/pilates DVD, so I'll join in with you on this one. Perhaps that will motivate me to actually use it, since I've had it since last Thurs. but haven't actually been through it yet.

could i get in on this action? i ordered a yoga mat and i have a pilates for dummies dvd that is collecting dust in the entertainment center. the yoga mat is MIA, sadly backordered for MONTHS, but i can manage until it comes.

so what the dilliyo? rules, minimums? i am supposed to be doing yoga in the mornings or before bed every day - haven't done it yet... is this a "name your own" challenge?

This is my first challenge so I am not too sure how this works. I am just looking for some inspiration to do 10-15 minutes of yoga per day, or maybe we could do it by 60 minutes per week. So it would be best to set our own goals, no? I'm starting today!

I'd like to join since I already pay for some yoga classes and needs motivation to go. My goal will be to finish all my prepaid classes (27 left) before they expires (7/27/07). That will probably means at least 3x/wk.. and i already missed this morning's class..

I'd like to join in too. I miss doing yoga and have no idea why I don't do it more! I have 5 yoga mats, blocks, straps, a dozen DVDs and even my 5yr old takes a yoga class once a week!

I'd go for a weekly total of minutes, then we can divide it up any way we want. Or maybe some combination.

Just to be realistic, I'd like to shoot for at least 2 sessions per week or 60 minutes total (or both). Maybe we should do it for the month of June?

I'd like to try this with you for the month of June. I will go for the 60-90 minutes per week and see if I need to adjust that after doing it for the first week.  I am very bad at logging in things -- I barely seem to have the time to do all my activities let alone try to log it all in on this site! consequently, even though I follow and usually complete my weekly goals for swim/bike/walk, I don't have any logged in here. Will we be logging yoga time or just reporting in with our posts?

a June Yoga challenge sounds great, I think we should all try to log our time - that way we can inspire and cheer on our efforts as we go along, rather than just checking in once a week.

I'm in for an hour a week. namaste!

I actually did an hour of yoga to Peggy Cappy's video "More Yoga for the Rest of Us". It is pretty basic and pretty much at my level at this point. But I think that if I do this on a regular basis (thanks to this challenge), I will "outgrow" this video in a couple of weeks.

Perhaps it will be helpful to all of us if we post any videos we use and how we like it. I know I will appreciate that. I've just told you about the only one I know of ;'-)

if we're drawing conclusions - i am extremely tight in the hips and legs (need to stretch more) but on a high note, my core strength has improved as holding the plank position was relatively easier than it has been in the past.

namaste

I'm a little late, but would really enjoy this challenge. I am just about to the point where I'm going to start gonig to classes at the gym for 50min sessions. Currently, I've just been doing my at home DVD's that last about 25min. I have a little more advanced one that is about 45min. that I need to do a few times before joining back up with the gym. The only thing I don't like about going to the gym is they don't let me take my shirt off and the cotton gets sticky (I don't own any dry-wick shirts).

So, do I just log my minutes into my blog?

Did my hour long class on Wednesday (that's two hours this week so I have met and exceeded my goal). that will be my last class until the Fall, so will need to do some yoga on my own.

I would really appreciate any suggestons for DVDs you may be using or have used that you like.

I have not done yoga yet in June (or May either, for that matter) and I have NO GOOD EXCUSE, or even a bad excuse. I have thought about it a lot more, and I know that the weight of all your posts about doing yoga will get me doing it this week. Thank you all for being here and for letting us know how it's going.

On a better note, I did manage to do my morning meditation (10 minutes) about 5 times last week.

I'm dealing with menopausal stuff and lower back osteopenia, and this all helps so much, I must make it more of a priority!

New week = new opportunity to do Yoga!!!
