Pre-race routine:

Got up early to drive down, got set up and found due to rain and wind the swim was cancelled. I was looking forward to the swim. Oh well. I then got my running shoes on since this was now event number one.
The course was now: run 5K, bike 20K and then rack the bike and a short sprint to the finish line.
Event warmup:

Jogged around a little bit and stood in the rain watching the waves before me go.
Now go down to running and read that first.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 1094 yards
  • / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Well I would have swam, but that was beyond my control, since it was cancelled.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 was from running to biking, I felt I got this done fair. NOw read the bike segment.
Bike
  • 40m 16s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.52 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt good when I got on the bike, ans took off way to fast rolling about 24mph for the first 4 miles , then realized what I was doing. Also I made a turn into the wind and it was hitting a wall. There was a couple of spots the wind was so strong, I could only get 15-16MPH. I did catch up to a guy I had tried to catch on the run and finnaly passed him some where around mile 9 and left him behind. A lot of standing water on the course. Now read T2
What would you do differently?:

Not go out so fast, pace myself better.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 for this improvised TRI was rack the bike, off with the helment and shoes and a short sprint to the finish line, I think I was trying to hard to get my shoes off which slowed me a little bit. NOw back to the run segement and read Sprint to finish.
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.11 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

5K--I started off the run knowing it would not be my best, I just plugged along and kept a couple of the other age groupers in sight, I did pass a couple of guys in my AG. I also had my eye on one, but could not catch him. But we still had the bike. Now read T1

Sprint to the finish:
Very short run to the finish. It was I guess 100-150 yards (depending on where you had your bike racked). I ran in just socks, nothing real exciting here.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked my gear back to the car, in the rain which it had been doing all day, and left along with everyone else.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The month of April being sick, but hey this was a good training event. I got to be smarter on the bike and hopefully my next race will not get a section rained out.

Event comments:

It was ran well, for the weather we had. And to make things clear we ran a 5K, bike 20K then the short run/sprint to the finish.

Awe man....can't believe the weather was nasty and they cxld the swim!!  I am sure you were looking forward to that. Bummer!  But way to go sticking it out in the rain!!!  I think you did great considering not too long ago you were in the hospital.  And you just WISH there was a chick at your race picking flowers and handing out recipes! Heehee!!  Great Job!
