Sunny
Total Time = 1h 24m 47s
Overall Rank = 51/172
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 12/39
Pre-race routine:

Einstein's Power Bagel with PB, banana. Drove to site and got into transition early so I got a great spot. Went potty, ran for a bit, and ate the rest of the bagel and a gel prior to the swim.
Swim
  • 11m 33s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

First co-ed wave start for me. Great googly-moogly MEN are MEAN in wave starts. I really had to fight for my spot in the first 100 yds, once I got my place, I felt fantastic.
What would you do differently?:

Position myself differently in the wave at the start to find my spot easier. I was 100% accurate on sighting and rounded each buoy closely.
Transition 1
  • 03m 17s
Comments:

This included a 2/10th of a mile run up a steep grassy hill to the t-area. I had a hard time getting into my pedals out of transition, I kept slipping off.
Bike
  • 41m 13s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 19.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Nice flat and fast course, with some rollers. Well marked course this year. Hard not to be in the draft position with everyone bunched up. It was so nice to have the slow swim waves go first, I actually passed people on both the bike and run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing for this ride, but I need more hill training.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Smoking fast T2 for me. Couldn't have gone better.
Run
  • 28m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

This was one of my fastest 5k times ever. I loved that I had people ahead of me that I could pass. I just kept reeling them in one at a time and that really motivated me. I pushed this run hard and felt it in my lungs.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around until I stopped wheezing and then had a beer and pizza and waited around to win the Orbea bike. Unfortunately, they got my number mixed up with someone elses.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more bike hill work and endurance.

Event comments:

A fun race with a very elite group of athletes. The overall female winning times were 1:08 and 1:10 and the 1:08 was in my age group. I wish I could have been top 10 in my AG or better than top 28% overall women, but this was a fast group.

BTW- I need a tri bike. I'm going to be doing some shopping.

Great job out there, it was a FUN course and event ~

Hey Mel.  Great job.  Way to run.  And don't worry soon we'll all be like 50 and winning our age group...   What kind of bike are you gonna shop for?  I'm in the same boat.  Next year, I hope to have a new Tri bike.

Again way to go.

Yep, being in the 30-34 age group in Colorado SUCKS!!! Lots of fast women around here. Great race, Melanie - looks like everything went smoothly, you had fun, AND beat your time goal. Can't ask for more than that!
