Comments:

The race began around 8:20 am and it was already sweltering hot. I didn't get to bed till nearly midnight last night because of lots of things going on so I was tired. My hubby had to meet our electricion friend at the new house so I had the little one and she wasn't cooperating enough to allow me a warm up of any kind, but this was supposed to be a fun, hometown run so I wasn't really bothered.

When the race started I felt pretty good, but as it progressed I just got so hot. I kept looking at my Garmin, and made sure to keep it moving. My only goal was to get as close to my last 5k time as possible. The third lap was a tough one, I felt myself slow down and the Garmin was reading over a 9 m/m so I tried to turn the feet over faster. Then I did what I told myself to do after the last tri, lay the hammer down sooner than usual, and I just flew the last quarter mile to the finish. When I stopped running I had to grab the rail cause my face was red hot and I was hot and beat. I'm very pleased with this performance. It beat my last 5k pr by a landslide!
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Get more rest, warm up. Oh, and maybe get up early enough to have something besides a donut for breakfast.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat down with my little one and our friends to get ready for our little hometown parade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not properly hydrating and eating.

Event comments:

Nice event. The local Fleet Feet folks are real nice and I recongnized all their employees runnng out there with us. Maybe I shop their too much if I know who they all are! It's also fun to race so close to home and see lots of familiar faces.
