Pre-race routine:

Got up early to eat, recheck everything ( for at least the 10th time) checked in, got everything laid out, forgot my bike computer, found the little boys room, went back checked everything again, talked to a couple of folks around me, check everything again, headed off to the start, went back to check everything again, finally it was time to go. What an exciting time!!!

Transition 1
  • 08m 11s
Comments:

again, I strolled through this transition just soaking in the race, it was almost surreal, I couldn't believe I was actually doing it. My lace up bike shoes took way too long to get on.
What would you do differently?:

get a pair of velcro bike shoes
Bike
  • 43m 56s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.75 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike course, fast, just the right size hills to make it fun. Drank way too much water and gel
What would you do differently?:

Again, I should have pushed harder. I guess I was having too much fun. I overcompensated and drank too much. Next time I'll wait until I am thirsty!
Transition 2
  • 04m 40s
Run
  • 33m 54s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 47s  min/km
Comments:

Well, my gut was swollen from too much stuff, I felt like I had been to the all you can eat buffet! Walked most of the first mile until things cleared up. The next two miles were pure joy! Just seeing all the variety of runners was awesome! Especially the seasoned citizens who were zooming past me! I was inspired!
What would you do differently?:

Pace my drinking better
Post race
Warm down:

Warm down consisted of basking in the sense of accomplishment, not just for myself but for all those around.

Event comments:

I had a blast, learned alot, and I am more hooked than ever. Went out today to buy a new bike. Can't wait for the next race in two weeks!

swim with the killer whales- how fun. as for tie laces, you could put those elastic stretchy things on your bike shoes until you can get new pair. do you know what i'm talking about? you use them on your running shoes.
