Total Time = 2h 46m 53s
Overall Rank = 516/872
Age Group = M 30-34
Age Group Rank = 83/122
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:45. Powerbar, SE and water. Met Glenn at 0430 for the quick trip to A-town.
Event warmup:

None. Hung around and talked with Glenn, Shelly and Dave.
Swim
  • 30m 18s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt really good out and around the first turn, then I quickly started feeling the fatigue in my shoulders. About half way into the swim, I swore to myself I would never race again without the proper training in all three sports. HR was through the roof coming out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Wetsuit snapped off well and went into the bag quickly.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 25s
  • 23.5 miles
  • 19.47 mile/hr
Comments:

Nothing special. It took 3-4 miles to get my HR down. I was really breathing hard when I got up Main Street and out Rowe Blvd. Finally settled down and just kept a steady HIM type pace. Got passed by tons of people, but I knew the run would be rough so I didn't want to blow out what little fitness I had. Thought I had a 20mph average in me, but I obviously overestimated my abilities
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Nothing special. Really took my time to get a good drink from one of my bike bottles - it was starting to warm up.
Run
  • 1h 00m 11s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

This was really, really painful and really, really slow. This was tough and took everything I had just to jog. I took as much water as possible at the aid stations and walked up 2/3rds of the bridge (as planned). Not my finest moment in triathlon. Once I got going down the bridge I actually finished pretty well and really enjoyed the finish into the stadium.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with Dave and watched Shelly and a few other I know finish. Ate some food and hung out with my BT peeps.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training for the previous 10 weeks.

Event comments:

Fantastic course, well organized and supported. The T1 bag pickup was a mess, but thankfully I was able to find mine without too much trouble. CTA really pulled off what seemed to be a difficult race to organize. This will definitely be on the schedule again next year.

Congratulations on getting through the run.  And your bike pace is pretty damn close to 20 mph for the event, and with the rolling hills that is a great time!
