Pre-race routine:

Ate breakfast of a Banana, weet-Bix and milk. Had a multi vitamin and a destress tablet. Rode the 8km to the meet up with BF's riding buddies. There were ten of us. Then we rode to the start line. We were there at 5:30. Heard Premier Bligh talk to us as well. She sounded like she was having a good time. We didn't get to the starting gate until 6:30. While we were waiting I ate a small packet of gummi bears and part of an endura bar.

Comments:

More co-ordination between the organisers and "traffic control" around roadworks was needed. There was a HUGE traffic jam and accidents between bikes happened around a stretch of roadworks between beenleigh and Nerang. One of our group got knocked to the ground in a domino effect and took some bark off. But due to the congestion I was unable to stop and help. I went ahead and hooked up with group further up the course.

On a better note, God and Mother Nature got together today and put on a beautiful day! It was clear sky in Brisbane. But once it hit 8am it became overcast. It was a nice cool day. They also turned on the tail winds for us along the ENTIRE course! It was BRILLIANT!

What would you do differently?:

My preparation for the 100km ride was AWESOME. I drank all my water and endura. I ate at regular intervals. I didn't need to pee. ^_^ It was the additional 30km to coollangatta that knocked me for six. The boys pushed me up the hills and along some flats to get me there. That 30kms took an hour
Post race
Warm down:

Like I said, we rode 30km to coolangatta. Then I immeadiatley burst into tears because we made it and I didn't have to ride anymore. I laid down for 20mins and drank some water. BF got me some sushi from the shop. I ate that. I then got changed into my togs and went for a "swim" in the surf. MAN that was great. the water was "wetsuit" temperature but it just felt so refreshing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. That's my FASTEST and LONGEST ride ever.

Event comments:

This was a fantastic event. It keeps getting better every year. I'll be marking this one on the calender next year as well.

Course: Course led us through the brisbane busway to Sprinwood. We then went through the side roads next to the M1 the entire way to Southport. there was a nice detour through some sugar cane fields on very bumpy roads. Most of the roads were closed for us or the police gave us priority over the cars. There were two rest stops. we only stopped at the first one. (banana and endura bar time!) We didn't stop at the second one. It was too congested. our little group of ten stuck together then entire except for the last ten kilometers. The finish was okay. I went and got my shirt. Had a drink. Stretched my legs, then our little group then rode to Coolangatta to be picked up. So my total distance blew out to 140km!!! I was wrecked for the additional 40

Good on you mate! Awesome time for this distance.   I used to ride just from Runaway Bay to Coolangatta and back and felt tired after... Congratulations!

Oh wow what an awesome event to do!  I'd like to do that one day I think.

well done, and a great pace too.

its cool that you were riding on the busways!  we have a ride over ehre that goes up the freeway. riding through a tunnel on the freeway is very cool!
