jenndocmartin - 2007-10-13 9:00 PM Did they just say the 2nd place women's finisher has never done an ironman before? Whoa...
On that note, the AG winner was the overall IMLP winner. I looked at the results and don't see any pro men ( did not look at the whole list but the first 100 or so. Were there no pro men at this race??

Nope, pro men raced at CdA.  They switch up the genders between LP and CdA every year so there's more money for the winners.

Very interesting.  That explains how an AG could win it.  I thought I just drank too much today and could not read.  I guess you learn something new every day.

So to summarize Men pro race LP one year and cda the next and visa versa for the women.

Has an AG won overal in an IM race recently where pros competed??

Finally they are interviewing Sam McGlone. They practically ignored her going over the finish line....she only came second...

Geez!!

Congrats to her....a good Canuck!!

An oxymoron?

Exactly what I expected ..... she was a non-issue.

She's had too much going on all year with the Olympic marathon trial training, her mom being diagnosed with cancer and some less than stellar results.  I called it that she was not going to be in the hunt this year.

Yeah but even with all that her 2nd segment time sucked (relatively speaking), 10:47 miles.  Heck, Bryan can always say he killed Desiree on the run.

kproudfoot - 2007-10-13 9:52 PM Someone get her a bigger flag.

I'm surprised she didn't have a bigger logo, given how she pimped power gel and her tri-suit top as she won the IM world championships. I didn't need that.

But kudos to her and macca nonetheless.

Ficker finished at 10:40 with a 4:19 marathon.  Seems like she took it easy when she knew it wasn't her day.  She does have the marathon trials coming up next year...

Wow that sucks for Desiree, especially seeing she is eyeing the trials and to not have it on the marathon.

Wow, that's sad.

She had us in tears last year running in at the end. This NBC coverage is going to tug at the heart strings.

Say it ain't so!! I was on the finish line last year for on of the best tri moments ever:

The ultra classy Michellie Jones waited for the end and gave a bouquet to Madonna at the finish line, at midnight!

In response to the post (on the second page of this thread by Selachophobia) regarding that this event should be covered by some TV network...

Yeah, I completely agree. I emailed Mark Cuban (Founder/Owner of HDNet, HDTV visionary, and probably one of the biggest forces in bringing HDTV to the masses) back in mid-January about having him carry the full 17+ hours of the Kona IM (in HDTV) like other cable networks (i.e. Versus) do with their coverage of the Tour de France from start to finish. I argued that this is an event that would work beautifully if covered for the duration of the day, especially in HDTV, and that the Ford World Triathlon Championship is ready for coverage like this due to the sport of triathlon consistently gaining in popularity, all the unfolding human drama throughout the day, etc., etc. etc.

He emailed me back -- which was very nice -- and he said two things...1) That the Ironman isn't a good fit with his audience, and 2) NBC owns the rights to the broadcast of the Hawaii IM.

Oh well, maybe one day soon we'll see this event covered in all it's day-long glory. One can only hope that it will be sooner than later!

It's now around the 15-hour mark and I have to say that watching the 70+ AGers finish is about as exciting as watching the winners. If a 76 year old can do it, what's my excuse? And the announcer is starting to get a little punchy.

This is so amazing of course -- watching all of the finishers -- come in up to the 17-hour cut-off mark. What a day of inspiration and motivation. I, like many of the members here, hope to one day race in the Hawaii IM so this is so wonderful to see and to dream that one day I'll be one of those crossing the finish line.

My IM/Triathlon coach (#371 Barbara Kostner) has just passed the 17.6-mile mark so I hope she'll make it in before the final cutoff. This will be her 4th Hawaii IM finish (and 9th IM overall -- I think it's her 9th) if she does! I hope this will be a good night for her over the last 1 3/4 hours. She's also planning to still compete in the 2007 McDonald's ITU Long Course Duathlon World Championship next weekend in Richmond, Virginia, so hopefully she'll be able to recover pretty quick!! :-)
