I can't do it. I always end up running after my daughter goes to sleep because I hate missing time with her, but then I can't fall asleep.

Any ideas? Besides working out early, hopefully that will come in a few weeks when we are settled from a move.

Probably too obvious an answer, but get up early and run in the mornings.

I figure I can either get up early to workout or get up early to go to work.  I choose to go to work at 6 so I can be out by 4:00.  I then go workout and am home by 6:00.  Either way I'd be home by 6:00 and I would rather go to work tired than workout tired.

I also go to sleep at 9:00 each night so I can be up by 4:40 each morning and out the door by 5:00.

x2

But, honestly, once your schedule becomes routine, falling asleep (or waking up early, whatever it may be) will become much easier.

I hate working out in the morning.  I try to get to work early so that I can leave early.  I do my workouts right after work and then I am able to fall asleep earlier.  I've also found that you might not be able to fall asleep early the first week of getting up early, but it's a lot easier after the second week.

I do most of my key workouts in the eve cuz I rather get to work early and leave early and because I am not much of a AM training person (except for weekends)  I try to be done by 8pm so I can have dinner and be in bed by 10-30ish although I am usually sleeping by 11pm at the latest. BTW, my PM sessions are usually between :30 to 1:30hrs  long at the most

I prefer morning workouts and get most of my runs done at this time as well as any strength training.  Unfortunately, the masters group I swim with gets access to the pool from 8:30 - 10:00 so swimming is done late as well as the men's league hockey I play on Sundays.

I have not found it easy to get to sleep afterwards and have just put up with it.  I usually try to schedule my off day after one of the 3 late sessions or at least plan my running around them and I'll sleep in a little the next day and ride the bike after work.  The downside to this is the swim days wind up really long as I am up at 4 to run and it is usually after 11 before I hit the rack.

The only thing I have found that works is Advil PM, but I wont take them for this purpose.  If I need ibuprophen at night for something, then fine, but not just to get to sleep.

I've been pulling the early morning for the 1st workout and then after 8 pm for the 2nd. It's starting to catch up to me, but I think it might just take some getting used to. Can you sneak out at lunch?

Right now I am home with the baby, So I can only sneak out if I convince the dog to watch her. The dog doesn't seem to interested.

It looks like the stroke improvement class I want to take will also be evenings. Guess I'll just have to figure it out.

Alcohol makes me sleepy but at the same time makes me not able to fall asleep, go figure?

If you aren't able to goto sleep afterwards, you aren't doing it hard enough (:

Seriously tho. I'm up at 4:30a daily to get in either the run, or a quick bike before work (or in the case of the bike to work).

i much prefer morning workouts, but have fallen out of the getting up early routine. i'm trying to get back to it, but it's a challenge. i find that i'm too tired and burned out at the end of my commute after work to feel like exercising, and i'd rather have the workout early to start my day and cross it off my list early.
