Benefits Research re: Childhood Obesity
Total Time = 55m
Overall Rank = 12/40
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/11
Pre-race routine:

Woke up, drove to gym with husband...(no dog this time!) and hung around waiting for my wave.
Event warmup:

Chatted with other contestants prior to entering the pool... Jumped into the pool, got wet, and waited for the start...
Swim
  • 10m
  • 525 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty good swim, although I ran out of steam toward the end, I think I was hauling A$$ for most of the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not much...more freestyle, less breast-stroke. Interestingly, my swim distance from 2 years ago was exactly the same... PRIOR to my training! As a rule, I don't see much improvement in my swimming times, regardless of how much I train.
Transition 1
  • 10m
Comments:

I was changing clothes to get onto a stationary bike, so there wasn't a helmet involved. T1 was allotted for 10 minutes. I was changed, on my bike and ready to go waaaaaay before most of the other women in my wave.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Bike
  • 20m
  • 5.45 miles
  • 16.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty good bike... You have to keep it in a high enough gear in order to ensure you're pedaling and actually getting somewhere... I was in the lead for the first two miles, when the girl to the left of me started to get ahead, reaching mile 3 and 4 and 5 ahead of me... at increasingly larger intervals... I chased and chased, but she still won the wave with 5.72 miles to my 5.45.
What would you do differently?:

Pedal pedal pedal faster in a smidge higher gear....
Transition 2
  • 05m
Comments:

They gave us 5 minutes for T2. Not necessary in order to walk from the stationary bike area to the track.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 15m
  • 1.58 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

A very slogging, slow run... but I didn't stop to walk at all, and actually, 9.47/mile is blazing fast for me... I think my shoes are still hot from all the unexpected friction! ha ha
What would you do differently?:

Run faster? Train more... Run more.
Post race
Warm down:

Stop running... go look for something to drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I've been out of my training routine... although I don't know if I can blame that entirely... I did have a couple of glasses of wine the night before... not a great idea... (!)

Event comments:

A nice way to spend a Sunday morning! Had a good time, and came in second in my age group to boot! (Imagine!) My husband was checking the standings and he said... "You're second..." I said "From the bottom?" and he said "NO! FROM THE TOP!!!!" I couldn't believe it! I've never won a medal for anything before! Really made my day!
