Elite 2863 | Subject: Ironman Kansas 70.3? Just learned of the possibility of an Ironman 70.3 race in Lawrence KS. Strange thing is....Ironman NA (NAS) does not have ANY info on this race on any of their websites. None! However....if you go to Active.com you'll find a registration for this race, which is in July of 08. So.....why the mystery? Why wouldn't NAS put this race on their site or calendar...and how did Active get this info? I'm confused. |

Champion 6627 Rochester Hills, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3? It's a crop circle thing. Seriously, NAS / WTC you name the race organization have done a horrific job of communicating future plans, and releasing them with one face to the public. Rumors surface, partners react (active), things aren't coordinated. The director of marketing should be fired. But I hope you're right, the heartland could use a fast, flat, draft-laden IM. |

Pro 3705 Vestavia Hills | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3? If I hear this correctly, I believe these new races are going WTC and not NAS events ... and an effort will be made to bring the Ironman brand back in house - or it is limited to the 70.3 and therefore will not full distance races? Should the former be the case, it'll be interesting to see what NAS does ... try to start a new series with the same distances but with a different brand? All of that said, WTC is not exactly rolling with a stellar PR campaign - or even a plan for that matter. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3? One thing that will happen from adding all these new 70.3's (New Orleans, Kansas) should make Clearmont a little tougher to get into, thus making the race a little more pretigious I wonder if this is there plan. Keep adding races to thin the slots down. |

IMFL has had a bunch of negative press recently regarding their last race and the amount of drafting/pack riding. I think Lawrence is hillier than FL. |

I guess KS isn't so flat........ ------ The swim will be held in Clinton Lake. Water temperatures are expected to be 74-77 F. Following the swim, athletes will ride 56 miles through the rolling terrain of southwest Douglas County. The bike course covers a challenging course known to local cyclists as the “Iron-Cross.” The “Iron-Cross” consists of the intersecting county roads of 1023 and 458. The bike course will offer long, winding, flat stretches matched with steep, challenging hills. |

SANTA MONICA | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3? Hey there interested HIMers I have talked to the guy who handles all sports conventions at the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau and the race director himself and it is a go for IM 70.3 Kansas!!! They have already had 200 people register and they are finalizing the course with the county. I did some research and I THINK I have found a course that they will cut down and use for the bike ( http://media.ljworld.com/pdf/2006/09/Octo06map.pdf) This is a race held in Lawrence called The Octoginta. They would have to shorten it obviously for the 56 mi distance. Also this is the same race but the course was slightly different this year and Kansas is NOT flat!! All you non-believers check the elevation graph on this page. ( http://www.mapmyfitness.com/route/united-states/ks/lawrence/1875042... ) See you all there!! |

Expert 675 West Metro Atlanta, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3? Eastern Kansas is anything but flat. Should be a good bike course. And Lawrence is a pretty cool town, too. Hard for me to admit since I went to school in Manhattan, though. |
