I use same brake pads on my training and carbon wheel set and was told by a number of bike guys in the know that it was okay with the right brake pads.
I use the yellow swiss stop pads. I just check the brakes before putting on my carbon race wheels.br />
Kathy, sorry to tell you but you are killing your nice carbon wheels... You can use the same type of brake pads on both carbon and aluminum rims, just not the same pair of pads.
No matter how much you try to clean the pads after using them on aluminum rims, you simply can't get all the microscopic aluminum particles out, effectively creating a nice abrasive pad, which is deteriorating the carbon brake surface.
Back to the HED3 carbon versus aluminum. It really comes down to if you want clinchers or tubbies and if you race frequently in rainy conditions. If you're looking for clinchers, al. is your choice, if tubbies, then go carbon. Regarding rain... braking carbon wheels in rainy conditions can be quite interesting... |
