Pre-race routine:

Up early, big bowl of cereal and got bundled up. Drove around a bit looking for a gas station that was open early on Thanksgiving Day, then hit the road North. Got to Andover and drove around looking for the parking lot, hit the porta potty, and got registered. Sat in the car for a little bit talking to Anna to stay warm before heading out to meet the other BTers.
Event warmup:

Jogged to the track to meet up with folks and did some stretching while waiting to start. Not as much as I had hoped, but I guess it worked out okay

Comments:

OH MY GOD! Sub-10?? I don't really know how that happened besides now wondering if the course weren't about a tenth of a mile short (look at the last mile time compared to the others). Started out with DK and Scott, but I was itching to go faster, so I took off. Nice decent uphill the first mile, I just tried not to blow up and pick up the pace when it got flat again. I missed the first mile marker somehow, but at marker 2, I was so excited to see my watch. I couldn't believe it. Then I kept it up for the next mile, and I was even more excited though a little worried that I wouldn't be able to keep the pace for the rest of the race. I was starting to feel it but not as much as the guy next to me who was grunting with each breath. I had to push a bit harder to pull away from him. :) Last little bit was uphill, which just about made me hurl, and then there we were! The finish! With a PR!
What would you do differently?:

Absolutely nothing. I don't think I could have pushed much harder without blowing up.
Post race
Warm down:

Went to car to get sweatshirt and warmup pants then stood around with some folks waiting for Max and company to come on in from the walk. Did a little stretching while standing in the coolness.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Evidently nothing. :

Event comments:

As this was my first time at the feaster five, I wish there could have been more signs as to where to find parking and where to go from parking to registration, the kids' race, and the race start. Luckily, there were plenty of people to follow.

Watching you pull away from us made me smile.  I told scott "Amanda is flying"    Great job out there.

I also wonder about the last mile.  But it was the same exact course we did in the past 2 years.  Unless it's always been shorter.  The big downhill helps, I guess.  And we tend to push harder at the last bit.

Congrats again on the PR!!

for what it is worth those are USTAF certified courses. I never realized how long the last mile downhill was until this year. the whole last mile is basicly as tall as the first mile hill is tall. Great job this year and so glad you came out to play!!
