Pre-race routine:

Made the long walk from parking to the race start. About 1/2 way to the start, I began to regret that I had not worn a stocking cap.

Picked up my packet and found the rest of the BT'ers. Jody had made green Christmas hats for the green team! These were great and I got something to keep my ears warm! Perfect!
Event warmup:

Hung out and talked with everyone for a while and then warmed up for 5-10 minutes. This consisted of easy running with a few pickups and a sort of frolic through the field with Shelly, Turtle and a few others.

We made our way to the start with only a couple of minutes to spare, heard the national anthem and took off!

Comments:

At the race start, my HR immediately jumped up higher than normal. Instead of stressing about it the whole race, I decided to just run by feel and not pay attention to my HR or pace on my Garmin. This ended up working out really well.

My goal was to concentrate on anything other than the run or how I was feeling. I think that this helped; the 10K I ran last year at about this pace was full of doubt about whether or not I could continue. This time I knew that I could finish and just ignored the fatigue those last couple of miles.

My damn Garmin HRM strap slipped down the last 2 miles and screwed up my HR averages. I was hoping to use this race like a time trial for updating my LT. I feel like it is probably still around 182.

Warm down:

Got a bottle of water, a bagel and a Christmas cookie and went to catch a few BT'ers finish. The whole group then went out to brunch.

Nothing felt better than to get back to the car after the long walk from the finish. I was freezing by the time I got to my car and the heat felt great.

WHAT AN AWESOME BUNCH OF PEOPLE make up this group of BT'ers. I had a blast! Thank you Tim for organizing this!

Oh, and Green Team was victorious.

Amazing race for you, especially given the fact that you were sick all week.  Great time with you and all the BTers today.  How did you keep your pace so consistent?  Great stuff, great race.
