  • Comments: This was a 100% different experience than first marathon - felt strong all the way through the end, Hanson plan really had me feeling easy all the way through mile 18, feel like calf sleeves held off a calf cramp at mile 25, best of all finished race with zero injury or re-injuries - days after race felt soreness in quads and calves, but was gone by Thursday of that week - I think if can complete the full training plan wihtout injury should be able to easily beat 3:40, maybe 3:35? Great race and a great day! Thanks mom!

  • Comments: There are few reason why I wouldn't give this race 5 stars: 1 - It's not very pretty. The downtown area is nice, but brief. The is a LONG section that goes by the rail yard and not only is it ugly but it's narrow as it's an out and back so you are crammed on one side of the road and on the other side are the return runners. 2 - There was one spot that there was way too long of a stretch between the aid stations, and then when finally one appeard, there was another one about .75 after that. 3 - When there were signs for aid stations, you might see them on the right hand side, but then as you approached the actually aid was on the left side. Not good. Good volunteers, lousy expo, very organized and good food at the end, but who can eat after a very hard effort! I probably will NOT do this marathon again as there are so many more beautiful ones to do. But thanks to the pacers!! Especially Erica Ogle, she went out of her way to pace me all the way to the end even though she was supposed

  • Comments: This was my first marathon and it was a great experience. I'm really glad I chose Portland - they know what they're doing! Great atmosphere. They had bands and spectators and even cheerleaders along the whole route. The pace teams were awesome! If I ever do another marathon, it will be this one or one like it.

  • Comments: This was a lovely race. It was well-run and I wasn't ever lacking for anything. Lots of volunteers, a good number of water stops, good expo. Oh! And the only race I have done in years that actually gives you your FINISHER'S shirt AFTER THE FINISH. I kinda like that!

  • Comments: Food organization was poor... Volunteers(young girls, needed a little coaching) giving out the medals had to be hunted down to get one. (I heard this from more than one runner.) Hey!! when you finish you want them looking for you--not the other way around. t-shirts people were awesome!

  • Comments: I think they did a great job at this race. I don't have any other marathons to compare it to, but it was really well supported during the run. There are a lot of people out there, both participating and cheering. Plenty of volunteers and plenty of drink stations. The roads are mostly closed to traffic, and there is a well marked lane for runners on the few that aren't. They also allow mp3 players at this run. The finish line was more fun with a 5-hour finish than a 6 hour finish - there was more stuff, there were more people, and they hadn't run out of chocolate milk. The only disappointment was that the later finishers weren't supported as well at the finish line.

  • Comments: This is a GREAT event. I don't have anything to compare it to, as far as marathons go. But I very much enjoyed myself [almost] the entire time. Entertainment groups were at least every mile, the volunteers were super friendly, and people lined up outside their homes to give encouragement. Up until about 1 hour before the race, I wanted to back out. I had no desire to do a marathon and I didn't think it meant anything to me at all. When I started running, I knew that if I didn't finish that I would be devestated. Part way through the run, I realized that I had goals I didn't even know about. And as I crossed the finish line, I just about exploded, I was so happy. This non-runner just finished a marathon!!!

  • Comments: This wasn't my best day for sure. I did learn that I could keep going even when I thought I couldn't so that was a big positive. Big Thanks to the Med tent staff, especially Dr Karen, it took a lot of work on their part but they got me moving in time to catch my flight home. Thanks to my sis and favorite training partner too, you rocked and thanks for getting us through the airport just in time and for your encouragement. The good thing about this race is that it shouldn't be too hard to beat my time next year!

  • Comments: The mental aspect of this race surprised me. I wasted energy battling the inner demons of 'I'm not good enough, I should just quit' at too many different times throughout the race. I'll be better prepared for this next time. When my best-case finish time came and went, I was very discouraged to still have so far to go, and when I got passed by the pace group where I most expected to finish and couldn't run along with them was the lowest point. I'm glad to have finished in spite of the periods of negativity, and overall had a great time. The day of the race I was thinking it might be my one and only marathon, but I'm already planning for the next time. :) The race was well-run and well-supported, started on time, had plenty of services (POPs) but ran out of chocoate milk at the finish by the time got there. I'll be back.

  • Comments: I chose this race cuz it was advertised to be so friendly to all with an 8 hour pace. The freakin' LIARS. For the first 7 hours, all I was offered were 3 gummy bears. I had tucked 4 gels in my bra, but for that kind of time on the course, I really needed about 10 gels or so. I knew I was in trouble when I noticed the heavy folks had backpacks. The race was very well organized, but I could have done with 10 less bands and more nutrition. Seriously, 'support' is really what I've paid for, it should be criminal to send people out on those distances and not deliver what you've promised to.

  • Comments: This was an INCREDIBLE race. It was well organized, fun, and full of entertainment. I never ONCE waited for water at a water station. The gummi bear stations were a BIG plus! The volunteers were everywhere! The course has only one big hill, but the rest is flat and if I had grown a brain earlier, I know I would have hit 4:30. The scenery was very nice for a "city marathon" and running across not one, but two really distinctive bridges was a plus. If I weren't doing my 50 states thing, I'd definitely do Portland again. Heck, I still might do it again! But next time, I shall engage my brain earlier and go into it in top condition!
