  • Comments: Stellar job by the event staff and volunteers on keeping us cool. Every aid station had ice...only one aid station ran out towards the end. I would recommend starting it earlier though since it can be very hot in July..obviously :) While I didn't have the best run I had an incredible swim and bike portion and for my first HIM I am very happy with just having finished ...not to mention the brutal conditions. I am definitly ready to do another HIM and IMWI 2012 is looking pretty appealing :)

  • Comments: i had high expectations for this race as my second him. felt really disappointed that i couldn't better my time from steelhead last year, but conditions obviously played a big part. well run and great volunteers, aid stations, and community support. i swore off tri's afterward, but now looking for a redemption event already!

  • Comments: This was my first HIM and learned so much along the way. I loved the course. They did a good job fixing some of the roads and changing the bike route a bit to avoid the worst roads. The residents of Racine were great!!!

  • Comments: Hip's a bit achy for the past few days, but if that's as bad as it gets I can live with it. Don't want to have surgery. Despite the less than optimal conditions, I had a good race. I'm very pleased with my time and had a fantastic birthday. What a way to turn 50!

  • Comments: I could not be more pleased with this race. I dropped 31:26 from my best time last year. I even beat the goal I had set for myself. Training for the full Ironman really gave me an edge this year. Wonder what I could have done if this was my "A" race that I was tapered for? :)

  • Comments: Great run race, awesome volunteers and citizen support. Great venue for an Ironman. Roads are the only shitty part. There were so pure awful stretches of road.

  • Comments: Ironman did a great job organizing this race. The only fault that I can point out is that one aid station ran out of cups - but with the heat and people taking 'extras' it does add up. I had a good time and hope to be back next year.

  • Comments: Organization was very good, volunteers were beyond excellent all day, I cant say enough good things about the volunteers the residents who came out to cheer. Word for the city of Racine: FIX MAIN STREET! Its such a disappointment as a local resident for them to put on a race of this magnitude year after year and the city refuses to fix Main St. I launched no less than four water bottles yesterday on that street alone. It sure would be appropriate for IM to tell the city, "fix the street or we are taking our business elsewhere".

  • Comments: The race organizers did manage to keep up for the most part, at least for the time I was out on the course. I enjoyed the fact they had ice at the aid stations on the run. The RD's course talk on Saturday was hilarious...the guy should go into stand up. Everything was on time and organized. The after party was subdued. Kind of thought there would be more hoopla than that at an Ironman branded event. Maybe it's because everyone was in the Medical tent. OK, so I have a habit of being emotionally traumatized by new race distances, and this is no different. I was kind of bummed yesterday after the race. I felt awful, I was unsure of how to feel about my performance, and overall, I wasn't sure if I had a good time. It is probably a good thing I signed up for Steelhead before this race, because at least now I am committed and can't avoid a second shot at this distance. But the good news is, as I replenish myself and start to reflect on the experience, I find that I am excited

  • Comments: The volunteers spectacular - it was a tough day for athletes, but seeing volunteers out there in the heat all day was a bright spot for me. Meeting so many first-timers, and talking with veteran's sure made this event a great experience. Wasn't crazy about transition/start area being so far from expo/checking, but I didn't know what else to expect.

  • Comments: Ironman did a great job preparing aid stations for the extreme conditions. In light of the disaster at the Rock n Sole half marathon last week, I decided to run with my hydration belt/bottles in case they ran out of fluid. They never did and I was able to stay well hydrated using what the course provided. Hats off to the race organizers on a job well done.

  • Comments: I thought the race was very well organized and the add stations were well-stocked. I did visit the "athlete lounge" afterward and thought the offerings a were a little sparse. Might have been due to the fact that I was in the bottom 25% of finishers, so maybe all the good stuff was gone.

  • Comments: In the end, there were several bright spots in this race for me, the things I learned how to do on the swim will aid me greatly for IM. Same can be said for the bike water hand off. I also have things to work on related to the run. I have 6 weeks to get it right!

  • Comments: This was my first HIM, AND my first half marathon, so I was happy with finishing close to the middle of the pack. Given the heat, I was also happy to have finished under my own power and not to need medical attention at the end. I was surprised to see that I ranked higher on the run than on the bike, so I guess it was hard for everyone out there. I guess that also reveals that the bike is still my weakest link, though I have come a long way during the past year or so. Before last year, I had probably never ridden more than 5 or so miles on a bike, at a casual pace. I'm pleased with my improvement but there is still room for a lot more.

  • Comments: I would have high marks for this race except for the bike course. I can't believe how rough it was. Everything else was great. I didn't get to enjoy the post race festivities. We had to leave for the wake right after the race. Being I took so long on the course we barely made it too. I'm glad we did. Carol really needed us there, and I couldn't live with myselfe if we missed it.

  • Comments: Good race, well run. Great mental challenge race, really brings to the fore-front the mental and nutritional side of this sport as you go longer distances. If you didn't change your approach due to the weather today, you didn't finish.

  • Comments: Had there been a volunteer at run out, pointing or SOMETHING, I would have been fine. Could there have been water available SOMEWHERE around the transition area? would have been nice to not start this out with a big time thirst. All this being said. I plan on coming back next year :) (smarter though)

  • Comments: As for the race evaluation, I wish I would have at least spectated the previous years before WTC came in and took over. For my first Half Ironman, this was a great experience and would recommend the course and the event to anyone. Come prepared and expect to have even more fun.

  • Comments: All I can think is...this sure was a good learning experience. I learned that I really am one tough cookie to be able to get through that run...and that all the training in the world can't prevent your stomach from getting sick. I learned that the donks are the best group around, and they will be your biggest supporters and help you get to that finish line, and when you do...they will scream like crazy! I learned that my family/friends are the greatest source of strength when you feel like you just want to die... I learned how to push my body to limits I was unsure of before... I learned that even though I was no where near my goal time, I am very proud of myself for training hard, and finishing. (Medal or no medal...ha!) This was a great race, and I think I would have had a great day and a pretty good overall time had my stomach not gone to hell in a handbasket. Can't wait to do it all over again next year... Wait, maybe I should have gone to the med tent to

  • Comments: My personal race performance left much to be desired. The race experience was awesome. The organization was great. The volunteers and the community were outstanding. My support crew (Jen and the kids) were phenominal. Jen really came through by rallying the troops and having them out on the sidelines to cheer me on on an unpleasantly hot day. However bad my race performance was, nothing could top the feeling of approaching the finisher's chute and seeing my family there to cheer me on . . . best feeling in the world, and even had I raced faster, that feeling couldn't have been any better (although I might have gotten to experience it a little sooner). Overall, I have to look at this as a good experience and a definitely a learning experience. If I knew then what I know now, I think I could have done this race 20-30 minutes faster, just by making better decisions.
