  • Comments: In the weeks leading up to the race you obsess about times and goals, the what if's, weather, lake temps, wind- my God like a million things to obsess about! When the day is upon you none of that matters. You will stand on the beach ready to swim whether it's cold or choppy, bike whether it's windy or hilly and run whether it's raining or steamy hot! The only thing that matters is the training and nutrition- The engine and the gas! This years race was a wonderful experience for me from last years but also taught me alot. Last year I was in such a late wave that I was virtually alone on the bike segment and shuffled through the run with just a few others. I was so sad that I had trained so hard for this?? To be out there alone with very few people left to cheer let alone run along side you and help you keep going, camera men all gone, they were even wrapping up the ironman signs. I finished in the awful heat and thought about it for a year and how I could improve. This year I changed

  • Comments: Ironman put on a great race. Lots of volunteers, aid station, and Racine supporters along the course. The town was clean, and easy to navigate, and the people were friendly. Although the race got tough at the end, it's a day I'll never regret. It was the culmination of 6 months of working my ass off to lose 95 pounds, and it was concrete evidence that I had regained my life and health!!

  • Comments: Overall I would say I had a great first HIM experience. Thank you so much to all the volunteers (including K!) for making the day so much easier than it could have been. And thanks to all the BT folks on the Racine thread for all of your advice and well wishes

  • Comments: Good race and the city really embraces the participants, especially on the run. Could have used some better food at the finish, but I was not really ready to eat anyway.

  • Comments: Despite the 12 oz of V8 for breakfast, 24 oz before the swim, five bottles of fluid on the bike, countess cups of fluids on the run, two bottles of water and a can of Sprite after finishing and more fluids in the hotel room it was a little over three hours before I hobbled into the bathroom. I guess I didn’t realize how badly dehydrated I was, guess I should have asked for an IV at the med tent!

  • Comments: Volunteers were amazing juts like last year and the people cheering us on out on the highway were great. Got a kicked out of one of the signs with about 2 miles left on the bike that said "Unhitch the Plow" ha ha. Definitely tried to have more fun with the volunteers and tried joking and high-fiving them. An amazing race with perfect race conditions. Also, I thought that the triathlete village was much better this year than last year. Awesome job people of Racine and all the other athletes out there!

  • Comments: the support from the community and volunteers was top notch. I have never had so many people cheering us on and helped keep your mind in the game and finish the race. I thought the race venue was nice too/ great beach with clear water is a big plus.

  • Comments: The only reason I rate this one bad is the bike course. It's just terrible! If they smoothed out the streets coming in and out of downtown it wouldn't be bad. I could even deal with the Bermuda Triangle winds out there if the roads weren't so terrible.

  • Comments: Great first HIM experience. I think I'd do it again, though we'll reconnect on that in a few days/weeks. Very proud and happy for finishing as well as I did. Expo was a bit lacking, but everything else felt very personalized. Racine was very welcoming and accommodating. Lots of volunteers.

  • Comments: I have to say the RD did a great job having enough supplies for the weather! I was able to put ice in my hat at mile 13 of the run! Now that is impressive! Also the community of Racine is wonderful with their hoses!

  • Comments: With all that happened on Sunday I was given a harsh dose of realiaty with just how strong you need to be mentally, and focused as well to have a good performance. In my short time in this sport of triathlon I have seemingly learned how hard it can be to focus on this distance for 5-6 hours continously. A big thank you needs to go out to all GG'ers on and off the course that offered words of encouragement to me, to hang through the run, some offered for me to try to run with them, others telling me to keep positive, all the support made Sunday much more bareable and enjoyable for me. Ultimately this was the hardest race I have gone through mentally, and the thought of pulling myself out came into question more then just a handful of times. I do have a strong "Do Not DNF" rule that I have to keep and was able to cross the line...eventually and kept my record intact. But hey my lime green sunglass frames seemed to be a big hit on the run, so they will be making their way out of my bag again

  • Comments: Nutrition - my nutrition plan was a based on 70gr of Carbs / hr. To accomplish this I took a PowerBar Gel every 30 min. I also had two bottles of Accelerated on the bike. I also picked up two water bottles on the bike due to the heat. This might have been too much - necessitating a T2 porta-john stop - but considering the heat on the run I believe I made the right call to fully hydrate.

  • Comments: I had never done an Ironman sponsored event and I was very impressed. It was very well organized. Traffic control was great (I heard they hired 60 policemen), the course was very well marked and coned. Aid stations were frequent and very well stocked on the run - they still had ice for the very last runners. I just gave it a 4 because I think they should have had one more aid station on the bike course and the really, really bumpy section at about half-way.

  • Comments: It's my first 70.3 and I finished! Not really the way I intended but clearly I have a muscle spasm problem that needs to be addressed in extreme heat conditions-not the first time this has happened. Really wish I could personally thank the three volunteers who picked my ass up off the ground, and also the runner who tried to help me. Total class act!!!! Please read my report and offer any help you can based on your races to help me avoid this situation in the future!
