  • Comments: Well, organized, planned, and thought out. Plenty of communication before and during the race. A fun atmosphere before, during, and after the race. Plus it was for a good cause, the Open Options KC. Having the special needs individuals place medals on you at the finish was awesome.

  • Comments: They had a pancake breakfast post race so Patrick, Pete and I went over there for a while. I had about 5 as I was pretty hungry. We then waited around for the awards which took awhile. The awards announcer guy was a hoot! He announced things in random order and noted finish times for some people but not for all. Depending on the size of the age group, the awards could go five deep. So one female age group went four or five deep and he announced the finish time of the 4th or 5th place girl but not the others. He then skipped from men 35-39 age group to men 45-49. Sometimes he would announced 3rd to 1st place and other times 1st to 3rd place. So Pete got 5th OA in the short course which give you an OA award and you are supposed to be removed from AG awards. They didn't even announce overall for the short course so Pete got first in AG, which he was anyhow. I was expecting 3rd place but ended up first in AG because those ages on the results printout were wrong I guess. This

  • Comments: Probably the best local race for beginners. They trialed a TT start this year, thinking it would be safer/better for newbies. As much as I hate the TT starts, I'm good with this if it brings more people to the sport and an active lifestyle. I think next year I'll step up to the long course. Still podium'd the last 3 years in my AG, time to move up...

  • Comments: Overall another excellent JCPR event. I wasn't a fan of the run course change they made because it eliminates historical data for performance comparison but I think the extra distance makes the run easier, allows more recovery after the dam hill, the finishing hills didn't seem so long this year. I also don't like the time trial start because I enjoy heads-up racing but if it is safer for new swimmers then great, but I've seen other races address the swimming safety issue with a last wave option. JCPR used to offer an optional first wave but that got squashed by USAT rules.

  • Comments: This was a great run local race. I would do it again in a heart beat. They seemed to really care more about the event than the profits. Common theme in Kansas City. I had a great time and may look to return again some day.

  • Comments: Great local race, well organized, tons of volunteers. Definitely the best race I've seen for your first triathlon. Tons of people on mtb and cruisers. I love this race, and I will be back again!

  • Comments: Shawnee Mission Parks & Rec puts on a great race. Wish they could do more. I like the numbered bike racks, the course is well marked and there were plenty of volunteers. Having the mobile TACO BELL truck there was a nice touch. With the Taco Bell truck there they could have dropped the pizza. Not sure how well the pizza went but they had Chocolate Milk, yogurt, fruit, water, sodas etc. so kudos to a complete refueling arrangement.

  • Comments: Shawnee Mission has always been a very good race, well run and well attended, they seemed to have stepped up the professionalism a notch this year with a more secure transition area and some nice weather.

  • Comments: Great volunteers, lots of aid stations, I think I counted 3 on the run, and it was under 3 miles. I was bummed, I skipped out on the after race festivities and went and got breakfast with the fam. They had a cookout, music, and a funrun for kids. I wish I would have at least stayed for the awards ceremony!!!

  • Comments: We'll try it again next year. That was a helluva storm that blew through. At first I was pissed because I thought they called it because of rain, but 15 minutes later, Mother Nature teed us up and smacked us hard. Very cool storm with lots of rotation, but no tornadoes. I was a little disappointed by this, as I wanted to work on my aero position in a pseudo-wind tunnel (with 120+ mph winds). Maybe another time.

  • Comments: This was my first race of the season, and only my 3rd triathlon. I did this race last year and enjoyed it a lot. Good atmosphere and a lot of fun. I have made improvements I was 5:45 faster this year than last year on this course. I have lots of room for improvement, but making some progress.

  • Comments: A very organized race, lots of volunteers. I wish they would set up the transition differently to have the bike in and bike out at different ends of the parking lot, because everyone on the far end has significantly farther to go. Granted, age groups are placed together, but it still screws people (like me) every year. Overall a challenging, but great race.

  • Comments: This was my first triathlon. Finishing 20th overall and 2nd in my age group is a pretty amazing accomplishment. I'm hooked now - I want to get better!
