  • Comments: Rain delayed the start by 30 mins. I think that having a food tent is great and serving hot food even better. But with over 4000 people, the one tent was just not enough. Too long of waiting for food, and too many people. I thought it was the worst part of the event. Not being able to just walk up and grab something after the race like a banana or cookie: you couldn't get anything! Plus the were giving out these nice emergency heat blankets, but only had enough for like 50 people. Not very cool. The festival events were okay. But really just not enough for such a large group of people. I really enjoyed this race and they were very organized. The volunteers really made such a difference. I thank them all for their support and cheers!

  • Comments: This race can't support so many people.. Nicely run race but 5000ish racers on this course is crazy. I never encountered a race that you encountered so much traffic at all parts of the race. The volunteers were great and did a great job supporting the participants. Learned a ton and hopefully I won't over think the next race. Also no more races with 5000ish participants.. Can't imagine how chaotic it would have been if all 7000ish racers showed-up.

  • Comments: I have nothing to compare it to seeing as how this was my first tri, but the organization and overall enjoyment were far greater than any race I've ever run before. If it hadn't been for bad weather it would have been a perfect day!

  • Comments: The "not on time" was a weather delay. There was nothing the event direction could have done about it. The event was VERY well run considering they had to keep track of 7000 people!! I think I just like the smaller races better. Less intimidating, less infrastructure w/ having to take a shuttle bus, fewer start waves, etc

  • Comments: We had a 25 minute rain delay. I can appreciate the organizers wanting to help us have time to get our transition set up, but when I was already started 90 minutes after the first wave I wasn't excited about it. The whole crowd groaned when they announced it, so I guess I wasn't alone. There were tons of volunteers warning us on bad patches of road or turns coming up--I really appreciated that. My only complaint is that the porta potties ran out of toilet paper by the time my husband got to the race. He counted--60 units and not a single one had toilet paper by like 9:30! There were people there till past noon!

  • Comments: This was my first race so I have nothing to compare it too. However it seemed very organized and well staffed. There was a slight delay to the start because of the rain but that was the only thing that slowed this race down.

  • Comments: MORE PORTA-POTTIES! There was not a single porta-potty on the race course. They were all outside the course markings.

  • Comments: Only problem were the buses from the Hilton on race morning. There was no one there from the race and spectators were getting on the "athlete only" shuttles and delaying athletes from getting to transition.

  • Comments: Finishing toward the end is a little deflating since most of the crowd has left, but training with Team In Training means no one is left to finish alone. I love my friends and would do this race again in a heart beat!!

  • Comments: The swim course is in the scenic Potomac River with the Washington Monument operating as your sight line to the swim exit. The swim start is just a short two minute walk from the transition area. The bike route takes competitors along the Potomac River and through Rock Creek Park on wide smooth roads perfect for aerobars. The run route is a challenging single loop into downtown DC past the monuments, memorials and history of the Nation’s Capital. This year the finish line has been moved so that it is next to the transition area so that it is easier and more convenient for athletes, their family and friends. Now from one location you can watch the swim, bike, run and finish!!

  • Comments: I think it was, overall, a great experience. I've never been to D.C. before. However, I think it was too crowded, especially on the bike. Also, post-race PBJ was sort of a letdown.

  • Comments: Don’t let the logistics of having to go to the pre race briefing at packet pick up and racking your bike on Saturday put you off. It was very well organized. Try to avoid using a car unless you have someone that can double park for you and wait in the car. Or just go straight for a garage, I found one near the hotel for a flat rate of $8. The post race activities are great, band, phones to call your family, massage and excellent food. The venue is great.

  • Comments: There's no reason I shouldn't have been faster on my two events. Since I didn't have anything to save for the run, and I haven't been training for the run, I should have been a beast on the swim and bike. While I may have had an equipment issue (bike brake), I still should have done much better. All in all, though, I had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed this race. I'm not certain if I will do it again next year, but I would recommend it to others.

  • Comments: I enjoyed this race. It was kind of fun doing a "big race" like this, but as you would expect, logistics are a bit of a pain. You've just to expect that and go with it in an event like this. I thought the organizers did a great job of getting all of the swim waves off relatively on time (I was in wave 28, and I think we were maybe 3 minutes past our "scheduled" start time, which really isn't bad considering how many people they had to get started). Overall, I'm pretty happy with my race performance (to 25% in my AG, top 30% in my gender) considering my lack of training over the past month or so. I forgot to start my watch at my wave start, so I had no idea of what my overall race time was during the course of the race. Had I known I was within a minute of 3:00, I would have pushed a little harder on the bike or run. Then again, it was kind of nice "racing" without regard to my overall time.

  • Comments: i would've enjoyed the metro starting to run earlier or an option to rack my bike sunday. as a local it was difficult to utilize alternative transportation to get to the race site.

  • Comments: I was concerned about the size of the event and wondering if they were really over-extending themselves. But overall it was really well run, things flowed fairly smoothly and the course was not nearly as crowded as I thought it would be. Of course I did go off earlier but still was in the 7th wave, so there were probably 1,000 people ahead of me on the course. After race grub was decent and they had chairs and tables set up for participants and friends to sit and listen to a live band and other stuff. I'm overall very satisified with my performance given all the concerns I had coming into the race. Even with the really slow swim I still finished top 10% overall and in the AG. I pushed to the best of my ability for the day and had no real disasters at all. Just another solid effort and good day. Couldn't have asked for anything more!

  • Comments: It was much more organized than I thought it would be. I expected chaos, but mostly everything went off without a hitch. Sure there were little problems (they need more organization on swim start), but it was fun and well run.

  • Comments: Too many people for this course. They need to spread out the waves to keep the bike course less crowded. PBJ's aren't good post race food. I didn't see much else. I think they could have done better. Last year they had pizza and subs. This year basically nothing.

  • Comments: What I am thrilled about: 1.God swim and I even swam over people without caring 2.Speedy T1, even with the issues 3.Good mental state on the ride even though I was ready to give up 4.Kept with it on the run and had enough in me to push it at the end 5.Had a PR!!! I had a ton of fun going away and doing this race and want to travel again. I was a bit disappointed about my bike and the shop for not checking the screw, but in the end, it was fun and i still had a great race. I would do another out of state race again. So, what would I have done different: 1.Not forget my bike # 2.Check over my bike better and secure all screws! 3.I am sure you notice that I never mentioned endurolyetes...Well, I did not take any since it wasn't that hot..big mistake! I am sure that is why I was light headed from the swim, and also why my legs cramped on the run. So, follow my race plan!!!! 4.Not take a gel before the run...I did not have it in my race plan and still did it...again..follow

  • Comments: For as many people as there were, the race itself went great. I thought the post-race food was pretty lame, and passed that up. Wished I had eaten it though, because walking 1.5 miles to the metro, and then 1 mile home with my bike and very heavy transition bag was as brutal as anything that day. Next year, I age group up, and will be even leaner and faster. I will do this race again because it was a pretty good course (in my limited experience). I want to see how I will improve next year.
