  • Comments: Nations is a good race and it is well done. The problem is that it is in DC and is somewhat held hostage to the limitations that the City puts on it. For example the sewage issue in the river was beyond their control. They don't have any other options for the swim location so what are you going to do. It would be nice to have the race be more in the monument core but that would impact the city too much and would never be approved by the city.

  • Comments: Great course, just too many people. If it didn't take over an hour after transition closed to start my wave, it probably would have been better. If you get lucky and have an early start wave, it is a great race to do.

  • Comments: This is one awesome tri! I met my goal of under 3:00 hrs. I can't wait to train harder and return next year. For it's size, it's really well organized, and the courses can't be beat. The logistics are a little challenging, but that's part of the overall experience. Fortunately it didn't rain hard in the days leading up to the race, which could have cancelled the swim. Just need to improve the quality of food for the post-race celebration.

  • Comments: I love this race. Two huge disappointments, however tarnished the event. #1 was the bike course. While it was spectator freindly, it was not athlete friendly. #2 was that they ran out of medals. Only the top 30% of finishers received them. This is inexcusable. This race has many first-timers and people who were just trying to "finish". To run out of medals is unacceptable. I received one, and like it, but it would mean alot more to many people who had never competed in a triathlon before. Overall, with the exception of these two issues, the event is great and fun.

  • Comments: Low score for post race based on the food tent. Almost empty for athletes when I arrived. Spectators were supposed to have food to buy, but the vendor closed down early. Little kids can be cranky when tired hungry and thirsty. I snagged them water at finish and the last cookie and peanuts from athlete table. Took no more than would I would normally eat, gave it to them. Also, it should never happen that a race doesn't have the finisher medals at the finishing line.

  • Comments: I am giving this an average due to bike course. If they keep this bike course for this event next year, I will not register. I'll find another race to do in September. Average swim performance, good bike performance, sub-par run performance.

  • Comments: The race is pretty well organized for an event of its size. The big issue on this course was the new bike course which I did not mind at all but a lot of people did not like it at all. The one thing that I heard of that is just inexcusable was that they ran out of finishers medals., I don't even know how that is even remotely possible. It is not like the number of entries is a mystery. Overall though I liked the race and would do it again.

  • Comments: Great race. Org and volunteers top notch. Awesome location. Logistical nightmare. My only negative is the no passing zones on the bike route - very dangerous.

  • Comments: I was not at all inclined to love this race -- the only reason I signed up was because I got an entry through the DC Tri being cancelled. I had always heard that it was too crowded and that the logistics were a nightmare. I guess those things are technically true...but the course is GORGEOUS. It's worth doing it just to ride those roads without traffic. The race was beautifully organized. The staff kept the Facebook page up to date with constant updates during the previous day's storm debacle, and the race volunteers carefully re-racked any bike that got blown off of the racks during the storm. I will definitely do this race again.

  • Comments: This was just an awesome experience. I tried to really take everything in on the run: the monuments, the sites, the fans. I participated as part of Team in Training and it was great to give and receive encouragement from so many team members and the support team. The course is unique. It's a little bit weird to run and simultaneously have so many different emotions: pride in country, pain in the race, compassion for those who I had raised money for. My goal was to finish in under 3 hours and I beat that goal. I finally felt like I was "racing" a bit, and not just trying to finish. This is likely my final race of the season and it is a great way to finish. This race gives me confidence that I can build on and go into next season with expectations of being competitive in my age group. I won't be winning any races, but I am shooting for higher finishes going forward.

  • Comments: So I would like to say a few things about this race. Overall, the race was amazing! great location, very well organized with a ton of volunteers and support everywhere. I loved the closed bike course, running past the monuments was pretty cool and just the vibe of a huge race in a major city made me feel really good. One thing I was dissapointed in was the after race party. I looked on the website and I guess they never updated it because it said the after race party would have burritos from Qdoba and the band Kristen and the Noise was playing. For me and the G/F, we love Qdoba and Kristen & the Noise is a favorite band of ours that we see every summer we are down at Dewey Beach. The combination of those 2 in an OLY race so close to home was a no brainer for us. Unfortunately, that didnt happen. No Qdoba, No Kristen & the Noise. All we got was a half a turkey sandwich, chips and a bottle of water. No post race beer either which I would almost expect from a race this size which advertised

  • Comments: The only reason why this race gets a 4 is because of the bike course. If you're contemplating doing this race, realize that this race is a very large race and you'll have to adjust your expectations to accomodate all of the seemingly extra people on the course with you at the same time. Otherwise, this is a great race, put on by a great organization staff, and staffed with great volunteers.

  • Comments: I really like this race. It's big. I always meet new people. Venue couldn't be better. The logistics are a bit challenging and it is not really spectator friendly for folks who live in the area (unless they come w/ you @ 4:30am!!). But I guess that's what you get with an even in the Nation's Capital!!. It's really nice to have so many people come to this event from all over the country.

  • Comments: Good organization, lots of volunteers, but the bike course really is too crowded for such a large race. Then again, racing on closed streets in the Nation's Capital is pretty cool. Totally stoked about my run improvement. A great race and a beautiful day (MUCH better than the rain last year)

  • Comments: I did have an issue with the parking lots after the race. I knew they would be closed for a bit since the run course went by them. We were told they would open at 11, so I parked there. I thought the timimg would be just right. They didn't open until past 12 so we all had to just sit there. I had a long drive ahead of me. I wish they had a better alternative.

  • Comments: Acknowledge that Nation's Tri is a HUGE race. It will be crowded in Transition. It will be crowded in the corrals. It will be crowded on the bike. It will be crowded at post race. Don't do this race if you have issues with crowding.

  • Comments: It's not the fault of the RD that the swim was cxld, but its still completely bogus. This was my A race for the year, and it was totally anticlimactic. I wish they would penalize the pack riding that occurs on this course.

  • Comments: I'm really encouraged by my performance this year. Had there been a swim, and if I had swam it as well as the DC Tri this spring (35 minutes), I could have had my first ever Olympic Tri under 3 hours! With placing 134 in my age group out of 188 guys, I'm beginning to move from the back of the pack, to the back of the middle pack! Yay! Last tri for the year, but I'll be back at the DC and Nation's Tri's again, plus definitely doing a half iron, and maybe even a full. Good motivation to keep working through this winter, and getting back on the weight loss path. Thanks for reading my long missive.
