  • Comments: I was terrified that this race was going to be an organizational disaster. I heard that the bike was crowded last year, and there were twice as many competitors this year. I think it must have been a lot worse for those who started behind me. This is my first race longer than a sprint. I went into the race hoping to beat 2:40:00, and I cranked out a 2:26:07. I've never felt this good in a race before. I didn't feel like I was pushing hard at all, but I was flying. Of course that leads to the after-race second guessing that I should have pushed harder, but I'm sure I would have blown up if I had.

  • Comments: Overall it was much better then I thought. Lots of fabulous volunteers running things. Also fewer participants then anticipated made it feel safer and less scary (especially when the bike course would narrow). This was my first OLY and I think I am hooked!

  • Comments: The race wasn't nearly as crowded as expected. They need to take charge of the swim pen a little better, as many racers were blocked from the start by the herd of racers who got into the chute too early (including me!) I am happy to be on the 'right side' of MOP!

  • Comments: This is my third year racing this event. Two years ago, it was completely different, they moved it to the new transition area and course last year. The course is good, the streets could use a little repaving in spots. Even though the long walk between finish and transition last year was a negative to some, I really preferred finishing on Pennsylvania Ave with the Capitol Building in the background. The walk back to transition was a nice cool down and recovery time.

  • Comments: Won the first annual and imaginary all DCI Cup. Raced with Geoff & Maureen Basye, Dan Combs and Aaron Gardner. I think this is my PR. In 2007, I turned in a time of 2:28 but never believed the course was long enough...the splits were too fast. Very happy.

  • Comments: Surprisingly well run despite the size. They picked very wide roads which really gave everyone a chance to spread out on the bike. I wish they had marked or covered more of the big potholes on the run. That would have been helpful. Post race spread could have been better...when I'm done racing I don't want PBJ! I want crappy pizza! Grease! Beer! Bad things! All in all, I really don't like doing races this big...way too much hassle for what you get. :(

  • Comments: this race, while nice is a giant pain the butt. the manditory events the day before coupled with difficulty getting from start to transition to finish makes this way too annoying for my taste. in 2009 this is on the same day as reston. reston wins that battle hands down.

  • Comments: Good course, I mean it's in DC. We received sponges which was great and also Powerade at the aid stations. The only thing I didn't like is all the TNT volunteers cheering only for TNT people, you know I'm doing this triathlon too!

  • Comments: I love the new course. The transition area and signs are great. Event very well run. Just get more Porta Johns! There should never be a 30 minute+ line for that, you know you have 3,000 athletes that have been hydrating for the past few days they are going to need to use the bathroom.

  • Comments: Logistics were bad. The finish line was 2 miles from transition. I caught the shuttle bus fairly quickly but then had walk a long way to transition. I couldn't find the shuttle bus from transition back to the hotel and no one seemed to know where it was. Fortunately, I called my nephew and he came and picked me up. Not enough porta potties. The lines were extremely long and they ran out of tp.

  • Comments: 3,560 calories; in hr zone 1:52:50; average heartrate for race 153 with a peak of 174 and minimum of 109. Immediate reaction was that I could organize folks at work to do the TNT in 2009. I really would enjoy doing 3-5 of these in a summer but the scheduling is tough. Lots of support for the race...the TNT presence was immense and as a result the size and energy of the crowds were great.

  • Comments: This was a PR by about 2 minutes, which was great. I'm still psyched over my bike leg, but I realize that I'm going to need to do a lot of work on my swimming to be a competitor for top 3-to-5 in my AG, as I lost a lot of time there (up to 11 minutes). This was probably my last tri for the season, and was a great way to finish.

  • Comments: This race is totally different from last year and has gotten more commericalized and cheap. I understand that it is for charity but when you cross the line they hand you a cup of water that is masquarding as a little bottle at the finish - it is absurb. They then usher out of the finish where you have Jet Blue wanting you to sign up for something but what peeved me the most was the shuttle bus. Last year it was a mess and while they provided more shuttles this year they only allowed athletes to ride. So family members who came down on the metro had to walk 2 miles back to the transition area. Susan and I walked back but watching the families who had to push their strollers back in the 95 degree heat was frustrating -this was shortsighted by the event organizers. Nations was my first OLY last year and it was a great experience - it got me hooked but it will not be on my schedule next year.

  • Comments: 3,000 participants is a bit much for me since I don't like crowds and prefer smaller races. Logistically, the race itself was awesome with all the monuments but getting there and getting out of the city afterwards was challenging and not very athlete-friendly. This race is only going to get bigger in the future since it is such a great venue, which will make those logistics even worse. Organizers were great and almost everything went off without a hitch. Very well done race. I'd do it again.

  • Comments: Pretty good race, there were some things they could do differently but fun overall. Had a great time doing this relay with Jen and Adam. Anthem played by guy on electric violin was pretty interesting, then he jumped in the water for the swim.

  • Comments: Overall, this was a great event. Well organized. Closed course, fun course. Add more Johnny's and improve shuttle transport to hotels and finish/transistion and this event would be an easy 5.

  • Comments: my new favorite race; i really want another chance to do everything smarter and faster: kill the swim, kill the bike; jog the jog; GET THE MASSAGE (from the heavenly guy from ART -- active release technique) 2505 calories; heart racing out of control (entire race in zones4/5; av 90%!)

  • Comments: Great race. Gorgeous course, and a lot of great support. For being the first time it was a triathlon, this was a great race. They'll probably need to add port-a-potties and a few more drinking stations on the run next year, but for the most part, it was taken care of nicely. I'm sure the race directors had a hay day trying to get everything approved... and it was well worth it!

  • Comments: A really good race. And I beat my goal time by 4 minutes. I only have one comparable time (the other Olympic had the swim cut short due to strong surf). That was my first ever Olympic distance and it was a much hillier course. All that being said, I was 17 minutes faster in this race. The best part was doing this race with Team In Training. I had a really great experience and found the whole thing very rewarding. My teammates and coaches were awesome. And it was great to be part of such a worthy organization. Lots of "Go Team" cheers throughout the race. Here's my two favorite moments of the race. 1 - Mary Ellen standing in the middle of the road with bikes going one way and runners going the other cheering her lungs out for TNT. Just awesome. 2 - Heading through the start of the second bike lap. A really big crowd had gathered there and they were cheering everyone on. Final comments. For anyone reading this I highly recommend this race - it was very organized and
