  • Comments: This was a terrific race put on by DRC sports. The water is crystal clear and gorgeous to swim in. The bike is safe and well marked. The run is hot but there are plenty of aid stations. Spectators can buy breakfast and lunch from the on base facility near the race start. If you have kids make sure to pack swim suits because the water is amazing and there is a nice dock that they can jump off. T-shirts fit ok but were a hideous color spearmint. Awards went 3 deep in each age group with nice medals. Volunteers packed the run course providing lots of water. Only complaint was that they ran out of pizza at post race and that they didnt have any coke.

  • Comments: Good race. Well organized and friendly staff. I had dropped my chip at body marking. They solved the problem quickly. turned out a volunteer picked it up but I was getting my gear when they made the announcement. I got a new number and had plenty of time to set up. The volunteer that found it saw my edited body marking and told me what happened post race. No lost chip, so I didn't get charged. Thank goodness!

  • Comments: Well run race. Plenty of enthusiastic volunteers on the run and bike course. However, I was surprised at the limited support in the water. Maybe 4-5 jet skis, a powerboat or 2 and a paddleboarder. Not many eyes to cover a pretty big area-just my opinion. Weather was nice although I understand that it was alot cooler than most years

  • Comments: Well run race by local tri club. Only comment is the food choice at the end. The only thing was barbeque pork sandwiches and baked beans. I saw a few bananas but that was it.

  • Comments: Other than running out of water at the finish line (it was 95 degrees dammit...how can you run out of water?!?!), the race is always great. It's one of my favorite races of all time. That's why I go torture myself in the heat there every year. Since I went 2:29 there, I feel like I don't need to go back now, but Idunno...I might be able to do better next year...

  • Comments: Quick race report for the Hammerhead Olympic Triathlon, aka the HOT. The race is held at Camp Blanding, a Guard base located in the sticks south of Middleburg. It's a great venue, with the swim in a beautiful lake (Kingsley Lake), and the bike and run on zero traffic roads inside the base. Our club puts this race on, and after volunteering last year, I decided it'd be much easier to race this year, so I signed up. We've had a tropical storm here for much of the week, but it cleared up somewhat on Saturday, and I went out and helped clean up the bike course for the race. Sunday morning the weather looked great. Scattered clouds, a beautiful sunrise, and the lake water was fairly cool thanks to all the rain. I arrived early, got my gear set up, and stood around catching up with everyone. Lots of BTers and other friends at this race, and it was great to see you all! I have been concentrating on bike racing this year, so I went into this race with lots of bike miles and almost

  • Comments: This is a very well organized race with lots of great volunteers. It definitely lives up to its name of HOT, but what do you expect at the end of August in Florida.

  • Comments: Year in and year out, this is a wonderful race. They did an especially good job this year with the tropical storm - the bike course was clean. It's a fun race and I hope to get better at it so I'll enjoy it even more!

  • Comments: Really hard - but great race...it is much harder than St. Anthony's cause of the hills and the heat, but I like the atmosphere so much!! And, its the only race where we dont have to get a hotel!

  • Comments: I didn't train real hard for this race like last year and was only a minute slower. This is a tough race, the course is challenging and it's difficult keeping the core temp & heart rate under control. This race ends my 07 triathlon season unless I just register for some unplanned race in Sept or Oct. I will however, be a volunteer at this year's IMFL, looking forward to that!

  • Comments: This was a very very well-run race. I've been extremely satisfied with the way the Oly races have gone this year. Sarasota Sharks race was really well run. This one was the same. I do have one complaint though. There were NO medical personnel onsite. They had to make an announcement at one point because someone needed help. The only person available was a medically trained spectator that happened to be there. Later on, there was a more serious case and they had to call an ambulance from Clay County which was like 30 minutes away. Next year they need to have an ambulance ready, especially because it was so hot. It was almost 90 degrees by the time I was done. But I absolutely can't wait to do this race again next year. Having the on-base housing was really great for getting ready and for after-race recovery. I really enjoyed the whole weekend and will definitely be back.

  • Comments: I'm a few days late writing a report, as I've been trying to catch up with a crazy work schedule the last couple of days. Better late than never, though! Christine (lucy) has some photos in her album, including one truly hideous one of me looking (and feeling) like roadkill immediately after the race. Enjoy! http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/photos/photo-thumbnail... The club put on a great race again this year. I love the clear lake, the rural atmosphere and even the potholes in the base roads. I had a pretty decent race considering the heat, and I'm sure I'll be back next year. Some random observations, highlights, and lowlights.. It was great again to meet more BTers, and it was great of Renee and Christine to come and have dinner the night before the race with me and my family. You guys are fun, even if Renee dashes off on random side roads while biking and Christine accuses me of lying about the absence of hills. :) Jeff, Tonya, Matt..great

  • Comments: Something I left off of the Swim start. The national anthem was sung by the whole crowd led by one of the military competetors. This was awesome and really made me feel good. Something they do at this race is to have a silent wave start first in the swim in honor of the military serving to keep us safe and free. The crowd had been pretty noisey and raucus prior to this. When the race director made the anouncement to start the silent wave, The whole crowd went completely silent! Not a peep, nothing. Complete and udder silence for a good two minutes. That really moved me!

  • Comments: This was a lot of fun. For next year: Stay on base for supper, it's desolated from civilization. There was no massage tent. :( Bring more blankets- I was cold. And learn to ride hills and run better. Like Jeff says, we will get our revenge on this course!!! It was a GREAT road trip with Renee. We had a great time talking on the way up and listening to her iPod on the way back. Dinner with Kendall, the missus and miss. Even two bad tires couldn't damper our spirits. And oh yeah we will bring a big map. :) This was my first actual tri-trip out with no hubby, no kids. I missed them but we had tons of fun!!!

  • Comments: Excellent race, awesome volunteers and I always knew where to go... Wish they would have had some vegetarian food (or fish!!) after the race - potato salad and cookies were probably not the best...

  • Comments: This race is put on by the local tri club of which I'm a member. The first time I've done the race & depsite the heat, I really like it & maybe a little bias: -The course is challenging & closed, -The lake is much prefearble to the ocean for swimming -Only about 300 participants so there is not the chaos of throngs of racers. (the race did grow by 120 participants from last year) Overall a great venue & great race - wait til next year...
