  • Comments: This is an excellent race. The second half of the course is flat. My strategy to run conservatively in the beginning paid off. The finish area was very well organized and refreshments were plentiful. This was my second best half marathon out of the four that I have done to date.

  • Comments: Central park was beautiful and it sure was fun running at times square. Excellent post race celebration, and it seemed to have a lot of fun things and discounts for participants. as the mom of a 4 month old I couldn't' partake in any of this but if you were running with friends this looks like a great way to spend a sunday in march!

  • Comments: This race would be a 5 but for the $120 race entry fee. It is a major race and destination race for many. It is a hometown race for me and can pay $30 to race other HM. I heard the later corrals took 20-25 minutes to get to start.

  • Comments: It's a good race. Well organized, iconic route (... though NYC's downtown was shrouded in fog during the race, so there wasn't so much to see). With the early hills and the risk of running 9 miles into a headwind, like today, it's perhaps not the fastest course. Everything was very orderly, and I guess I can forgive NYRR's hard-nosed approach to achieving that, e.g., very early bag drop-off, and no bags other than the clear plastic bag that they provide. The porta-potty supply at the start was not good. Each 1000-runner corral had a bank of johns, and they were just far too few for the number of runners. And the situation was exacerbated by having the loos on the west side of Central Park, and the bag drop on the East Side of the park, forcing runners to criss-cross the park. I was fortunate to be in the first corral, so the start was a breeze, but it must have been less fun for those towards the back who had to wait for 40+ minutes to cross the start line. The new finish line venue at

  • Comments: Nice venue for sure. Pre-race expo was about 10 stands mostly local run shops. Swag included a nice wicking tee, stretch band, popcorn, and some soap. Race was on time, well marked, enough refreshments, and plenty of volunteers. Post race included a bag of pretzels, apple, and water. Also some live music. Most people just left after the race. If you are staying in the city for this race for one night. Stay downtown world trade center area near the finish. Nice hotels close to the finish. There is a train station 2-3 blocks from the hotels that takes you straight to 96th street. After you should be done by like 10 and in your hotel room and able to shower and everything before noon checkout. Worked out really well. Also if you are carb loading try The Halal Cart on the SW corner 53rd and 6th ave across from the hilton. Really good food and cheap ($6). Got the chicken platter with lots of white sauce. Go after 7pm though for the real cart, not the fake one before.

  • Comments: Great race. The crowds are both annoying and amazing at the same time. There's great energy among the athletes and volunteers, and hey, you're running through NYC and they close down Times Square, so...there's that. Really fun race, glad they moved it to March!

  • Comments: It is a very crowded start. You burn a lot of energy at the beginning. I wish they would stop taking first timers estimated completion times and instead start then at the back. It really detracts from the start.

  • Comments: If you just want to run a fun half and enjoy NYC, this is a great race, which is why I rated it a 4. If you want to challenge yourself on a half and achieve a time goal, it's a tough race given the number of people and tight course. Every race day can't be perfect and you can't control whether or not your body cooperates. Today was not a great race day for me, but I'm still very proud of my finish time and the fact that I exceeded my goal despite challenges. Just think how fun my next half-mary will seem in comparison?

  • Comments: Very well organized by NYRR. Bit expensive $60, with such big sponsors the race could be cheaper or cheaper for some students and the young

  • Comments: At least half of the water stations where severly undermanned and I was dissappointed at the lack of bagels (which I was really looking forward to). I really needed some carbs in the form of bread but all they had was apples, not even bananas. I found out that Gatorade Endurance is fine for my stomach while on the run, as oppossed to the regular gatorade - I'm very happy to find that out. This was an incredible learning experience. Your weaknesses, strengths and then some, all shine at moments like this. I'm very happy with my acheivement here. Despite injury, not running for the past 3 weeks and this being my first 1/2, I have to say that I am proud of what I managed to do and thrilled that I did not reach the 2:30 time I was was trying desperately trying to avoid. Even if I was determined to do a long run this past Sunday, it may not have reached 10mi and you can surely bet it would have been way slower. For an event I came so close to not doing from being tired, I'm very happy
