  • Comments: I learned from NYC to bring at least 4 gels. This race had at least two stops for gels, but that really isn't enough for me. I was HUNGRY. I missed the NYC spectators that handed out candy and bananas. I was excited to hear they were handing out salt, until I found out they were just salt packets. Ok, so I'm jaded. My only marathons have been ironmans, and boy do they spoil us in terms of food! I think I need to bring something to eat with me, like cheese and crackers or fig newtons. It was an unnecessarily long finish. I'm thinking it was spread out due to the numbers of half marathoners, but to walk 50 feet to the water, then another 20 feet to get a mylar blanket, then another 20 feet to get a power bar, then another 20 feet to get a banana. It was silly. And really not much of a finish line. I was less than impressed with that. I don't think I"d recommend this as a marathon, though I bet it would be fun as a half, with all the folks. Lots of people dressed up and some good

  • Comments: Great race. I had a few small issues with the way aid stations were set up and directions/navigation before and after race, but volunteers, course, expo, etc. were all fantastic.

  • Comments: Overall even though I missed my goal of 3:30 I was satisfied with my performance and felt that it was a great learning experience. This was my very first marathon and I am glad I was able to complete it injury free. The marathon itself had some problems for sure. The merger between the full and the half was very rough and something better needs to be figured out.

  • Comments: I just don't really like huge comercial marathons and because I did the wedding ceremony I was WAY in the back and spent 10 miles trying to run past people who were running and walking really slowly. However, just to do the race for the wedding is really cool so I am not sorry I did it I just wouldn't choose it as a race or reccomend it for any other reason.

  • Comments: Well organized race for 30k runners. Lots of aid stations, but if you were not prepared, only 2 GU stations would not be enough unless you stuff your pockets at each one. And Bret Michaels - cmon now. I didn't even know he played. That was poorly organized. He was way done before I got in. there were people finishing for an hour after me as well. Boo that. Best race sign - Don't let Betty White kick your a$$

  • Comments: I missed my marathon PR by 29 seconds. I knew my current PR was 4:12, but didn't know the seconds until I looked it up later. I am very glad though that I had the GUTS to decide to go for 4:00 and also the ABILITY to stay with the group for 18 miles. I now have a VERY good idea of what it will take to reach my 3:XX goal sometime in the future.

  • Comments: My third Vegas marathon, did the old one that started in Jean, which was ok, and did last years with the Devine Group running it, and now a R&R event. I've read about the yeas and nays of others. Me personally, I liked the event, I know that by the time I get to some of the later bands, they might not being playing (big deal) aid stations don't always have to be fully manned, just as long as I can grab a water jug to fill up my bottle. Think the cold put a damper on some of the crowd support, but being cold kept the worries of overheating and dehyrdrating. Started to think about the doability of a triple?

  • Comments: I thought RnR did a good job with the race and support. My only complaint and I heard many people complain about this was only having 1 portapottie at the stations during the 1/2 creating longer lines than necessary. I planned on stopping but just ended up finding bushes due to the lines.

  • Comments: Thie was a great race. Very well orgazined, good expo, start corrals were helpful. Everything went off on time, the skydivers and fireworks were cool. Running down the strip was great except for the drunk fools who were coming in from the night and didn't know what was happening. Once the course turned offthe strip, it was pretty dull, but at least, once we turned back towards home at mile 20, you could see where the finish was, so that was good for the psyche. Overall, this was a good race. I didn't race well, but everything went very smoothly, and when it's over, you are still in Vegas. There were some good entertainment offers through the marathon which was good too. Always good to save money when you are in Vegas.

  • Comments: The only thing I didn't like about the race was the lack of `exit strategy.' I guess there's not much the RD can do about that, though. There were no cabs and I ended up hobbling the three or four miles back to my hotel, which sucked ballzack. Oh well. I'll be back next year. This course is mostly flat and fast and I know if I don't have a fu**ed knee I could totally tear it up!

  • Comments: There were I think 2 water stops that were not manned. Start was not organized very well but didn't afect me, my gun/chip time were only a minute apart. Not a whole lot of spectators. Decent spectators right at finish but pretty sparse last couple of miles when we joined with the walkers from the half marathon. Goody bag was definitely poor, cotton T-shirt was about it.

  • Comments: Great race overall except for getting to the starting line. You had to walk all the way around the back to get in the starting crowd and there was a huge line to get there just minutes before the race started. We ended up jumping the gate with a number of other people so we could get to the starting crowd. Also, there was supposed to be gatorade at the stattions along the way, but shortly into the race they had ran out. Definately sucked. Otherwise, everything was great.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: This is a good race and I think it will get much bigger and better over the next couple of years as it becomes part of the "Rock and Roll" series (Devine ran it the first 4 years and had some money issues paying the winners and the town of Vegas, too). The venue is incredible. The course is great. They have a ton of unique features (the wedding chapel where something like 51 runners got married during the marathon, fireworks, running during sunrise, the Elvii, the strip). They do need to be better with the water stops and more volunteers. The food afterwards was pretty good. They used the new chips that are basically a piece of paper that you tie on your shoelaces. Would be nice to have athlete tracking, though. Also, would be nice to have race results posted after the race, too.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: Pretty well run, and the first 6 miles (the Strip, Downtown) are fun. But the rest of the course is awful. Some pretty sketchy neighborhoods (think "Cops"), tons of bad road construction, deserted streets, silent runners and empty sidewalks. This makes for a great marathon weekend--I mean, it's Vegas--but most of the marathon course is grim at best. Do this race if you want to come play in Las Vegas afterwards and to see the city briefly taken over by runners. But if you are a first-timer or like inspiration out on the course, find another race.

  • Comments: I ran the old course out of Jean, which was sorta cool, but since this is Las Vegas, this course is more in line with being called LAS VEGAS. Logistics of these events I know are enormous and to make money, they have a half at the same time as the full. Should have a split start like Seattle. Fun race though, interesting to run the strip, even though it is conjested and you have to watch where you run. Fireworks at the start. Weather was overcast the whole day so it was perfect for running. Expo was pretty good, lots of stuff to look at and buy. Will probably do it next year .
