Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi My goal this year was to complete a 70.3 , I have not done much training (if any) my swimming is "ok" but haven't done any ocean swimming , bike biggest ride 50 kilometers and haven't run much , I would say I was pretty unfit if honest So saying that is 20 weeks enough to complete my goal of finishing a 70.3 Thanks any tips wold be welcome or feedback , I could take a more measured approach but I am a all or nothing kinda person |

![]() If you're okay with doing a lot of walking during the run portion of the HIM...then I'd say 20 weeks is enough time. My question to you is...if you don't enjoy biking longer than 50k, or running enough to do it on your own free time...when there is no race to train for...what makes you think training for and doing a HIM will be fun? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Find a HIM Plan. There are several on this site. Follow the plan. If it's a matter of just crossing the finish line, 20 weeks seems like enough time to me. But then, I struggle on HIM runs so who am I to talk?

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think that the cutoffs are stricter at most races |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No, most 70.3's have a cutoff of 8-9 hours ![]() Is 20 weeks enough time to train for a 70.3? Yes. Look at some of the plans, which are often 20 weeks long, and decide if you could do the week1 training now. But...as others have said...what is your motivation? If you aren't excited at the prospect of an 80km ride, are you going to enjoy it? Why would you dedicate that much time and energy to an optional activity that you don't enjoy? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yes - Last year - I completed a HIM 5 weeks after training for a century. I won't lie - it hurt but I was able to finish before they kicked me off the court. Good luck! |

Up until starting training I was in okay shape; I was working out 5-6 days a week doing strength/sbr/climbing, but nothing structured. I had a coach put together a plan for me and followed it well. It was nice because it could take into account my travel and other commitments vs a canned plan. Have you done any triathlons before? How confident are you in an OWS (not just ocean, but lake)? |
