Subject: They are getting worse (NFL Replacement Refs)

I thought, after the first week, they would start to get a little better.  Kind of like playing into shape.  But good lord could they be any worse than they were last night?  It took a friggen hour for the first quarter of play because of how they affected the tempo of the game.

The only way I see any resolution between the NFL and the Refs is if the quality of the play continues to go downhill like it is and people don't tune in on TV and start to not show up to games.

Thoughts?

They did not do a good job in the Eagles-Ravens game last Sunday. At one point they screwed up the clock and lost track of the down.

they really are hurting the sport right now. too many games getting out of hand, too many bad calls, bad ball placement and the games themselves are taking FOREVER

I liked how Tirico kept talking about "command and control" during last night's game. There is very little. The players are treating this like homeroom when there's a substitute teacher. While they can't just cave in to labor demands, Goodell and the NFL are looking very bad here. They could have and should have prevented this.

They overturned Steven Jacksons TD and it cost me my fantasy win for the week! The worst part is how long they take to make calls. That and the muggings the DB's are getting away with.

Watch the phantom pass interference call from last night.  Tony Carter was a good 2-3 yards away from the receiver once the initial shuck off the line.

Last night was an embarrasment!  These guys really messed up in so many ways.  I don't know they they have effected the outcome of any games but they sure have made it hard to watch!  The first team refs are loving it!

They are affecting the pace of the game which could play into some teams hands.  I would say that they are potentially affecting the outcome, at least indirectly.

I watched a couple of games this weekend and even as a relative newbie to the sport (3 years here) I was shocked at the calls/pace/indecision of the ref's.

These temp guys are so far out of their league you have to feel sorry for them.  When Mike Shanahan was screaming at the guy for the challenge flag being used on the turnover and the 15yd penalty not being imposed I felt for the ref right there!!

They don't seem to have a full grasp of the rules, they don't have the experience/skill to control a game at this level IMO.

Yeah it's very difficult to watch the games with the bad reffing going on.

I mean, the Cowboys would've won it in a landslide if not for the refs!

I couldn't stand how much Tirico and what's his face were going on and on about the refs last night. They are clearly AGAINST them and fueling the fire with their commentary.

If the ref's are awful, they should be called out on it. Some of these games are getting so bad I can hardly watch them. The pace slows down to a crawl far to often.

I didn't think it would be THIS bad.  Lots of missed holding calls, bad ball placement, not understanding the rules... but the worst is the risk to players.  They're letting some nasty hits go without penalties.  Sometimes I'll watch, sit back and watch off-the-ball play.  The holding and interference is incredible and the refs are missing it all.  They really are hurting the integrity of the game and I think the league should seriously consider capitulating to bring back the "pros".  They've certainly made their point.

Nope.  The replacement refs are feuling the fire with their horrible performances.

Yes, and the Monday night crew has the clout to call them out. Won't hear that on Thursday nights.

Frankly, I thought Chucky (Grudden) was going to have a coronary a few times.  And half time was hilarious.  He really didn't know what to say, it was so bad.

I was asleep by halftime. I did watch a lot of NFL play on Redzone and things were bad in almost every game. They didn't play it up because it's a league owned entity, but they didn't need to.

Monday Night Football was terrible for several reasons:

1:  the replacement refs were really, really bad.  2:  Jon Gruden's performance in the booth was really, really bad.  He doesn't know the rules, he recaps a play at times with information that is blatantly false...I'm not even calling him out on analysis I disagreed with, but actual events he stated took place did not.  As Sir Charles Barkley would say, "He's turrible."  and 3:  my fantasy football team was winning by 23 going into the night...up against Willis McGahee...who scored 24 points...finishing me off with his very last carry into the end zone!

UGH!

I don't think any team has really benefited from the replacement officials since they have been so universally bad. The problem is though, they are are going to get some one hurt. The near fight last night was cause by the officials being just flat out indecisive. If nothing else, the real officials take control of the game from the opening whistle.

It't the nuance calls that they are having the most trouble with, things liek when to rule someone down or how much contact is ok. In the 49ers/Lions game both QBs had chance to take big shots on plays that whould have already been blown dead. Stafford was plulled down to a knee on a play, the play wasn't blow dead, and then took another shot from a Niner LB for another 6 yards of loss (which was later overturned). Alex Smith was in the grasp for probably 5 seconds on one play while one of the Lions lineman spun him around trying to throw him to the ground. He was exposed to another hit the entire time.

If either player had been injured, it would have likely been the end of the teams season. Is that what is is going to take?

You make an excellent point.  That has to be the biggest fear.  If some terrible ref is partly responsible for a career-ending injury, that's got lawsuit written all over it.

Bah... These officials are making it hard to watch these games. You can't call a personal foul for a little pushing and shoving after a play, then allow a player to stand over and taunt another player on te very next play. If you are going to "take control of the game" by throwing flags, at least be consistent.
