Assuming you're asking about clinchers...

I've always recommended the Michelin Pro 2 Race, great performance and flat resistance, and I've gotten >5K miles out of two sets.

I have Pro 3 Race on my race wheels but really don't have many miles on them yet. There have been here and elsewhere a recent rash of problems with sidewalls blowing out and excessive flats, so I would be hesitant to recommend them at this point.

The prevalent recommendation these days is to go with the Continetal GP 4000s, best price could be at probikekit.com.

Here is a recent thread on the subject.

I LOVE my Michelin Krylion Carbons... went from stock 25's to 23's in the Krylion carbon and the ride is actually plusher, the rolling resistance seems to be a lot less and these things supposedly last forever. There are people who race them. Supposedly very good on flats... so far for me no problems. Hard to beat it overall for a training tire, imho.

Here's a link to the Krylions @ probikekit:

The most popular "forum consensus" all-purpose training/racing tire is generally the Continental GP 4000.

It sells on ProBikeKit.com for about $39 + inexpensive shipping. PBK is not in the US, but road bike forum consensus is that it only takes <7 days to get your stuff. I just ordered from them last week, and I got the international shipment in 5 days - faster than the vast majority of US companies. Impressive.

I had a set of Michelin Ironmans that went over 2K miles without any probs.  Replaced them with a set of Pro 3's, but suffered a cut through the tread on the rear after less than 50 miles.  Maybe a freak occurance but the jury is still out with me.

Previously I had a set of GatorSkins that were just about indestructable.

Gatorskins are about indestructible, I use them regularly in training and haven't had a flat yet with them.

Pro3 Race I had but sold off after excessive flats, read every time I went riding.

GP4000 I'm using now and have all good things to say about them. Not a problem at all and I'll buy them again in a minute.

Slight hijack....

Can someone explain the difference between the Conti GP 4000 AND the Conti GP 4000 S?    Pricing at PBK's site is the same for both tires @ 37.45.  Is it simply that the "S" tire is solid black, and the regular 4000 is colored?

ETA - upon further checking...it looks like the "S" tire has the Chili compound and the regular 4000 does not...is this correct?   Is one better than the other?

Adding my n=1 experience with the Pro3.  Tear in the sidewall with maybe 400-500 miles on them.  Replaced by a GP4000.

I have pro race 3s...prob about 1000 miles on them with no punctures that I didn't cause! I basically tightened a spoke so it punctured the tube from the inside. But that ain't Michigan's fault. I really like the pro race 3s...no issues at all, compared with my old Vittoria Pro Lights that flatted every month at least.
