Subject: Good shoe stores?
I am just starting into training and know that I need to be fitted for a good pair of running shoes.  I'm not sure if this belongs in the Gear section or not, but are there any recommendations for a good shoe store in the Southern Baltimore/Columbia/Laurel area?  The only shoes I have now came from a box store, and I'd like to find a place that will fit me correctly.  Thanks!

It definitely pays to get your running shoes at a knowledgable store. I get mine in Rockville, MD. There's a Roadrunner Sports in Columbia. I think there's a Fleet Feet somewhere around Fels Point. I haven't dealt with either. Good luck.

Go see Doug Mock at Road Runner Sports in Columbia.  It's in the new Columbia Overlook shopping center off 175 right at 95.  Doug is an experienced runner, duathlete and triathlete and manages this location.  He'll take good care of you.

Yup, RoadRunner sports just opened in Elkridge area just off of 95 and 175.

Also, Falls Road Running up in northern Baltimore is a great shop.

there's a Fleet Feet store in Reisterstown/Baltimore that I went to for the first time a few weeks ago, it was pretty nice.  My personal favorite store around is If The Shoe Fits, it's in Frederick; they are knowledgeable and do gait analysis.  They also have a great return policy...i've worn shoes for 40-50 miles and determined i didnt like them, they still refunded. the full price.

I've heard good things about Falls Road running store in B'more.  There's also a Fleet Feet in Gaithersburg that I love.  They are friendly, knowledgable, and offer a frequent customer gift certification (10% of purchase price).

Yes, you should go to a good shoe store in order to get the best quality shoe at a reasonable price. It is the best choice for last season shoes. Nobody will be able to tell anyway and you can get them fairly inexpensive.

Holabird Sports on Rt. 40 near the White Marsh area. Better selection than the usual retail stores and considerly cheaper. You'll be surprised. They also have a website.

I go to Holabird to buy my running shoes, but only after I've been professionally fit at a running store.  I don't have experience with the salepeople there, but I do agree that their prices are far below the boutique stores.

I'm a newbie here but I was advised to get fitted professionally and I did that at Charm City Run in Timonium.  Their staff was pretty helpful and seemed to understand the type of running shoe I needed.

I was also told that Holabird on route 40 is consistently $10-20 cheaper and a great place to go once you have been professionally fitted.  I was told the shoe models are often the season before leftovers.
