From a number of my friends status updates (including my own)

"FB will now index your info on Google, which allows everyone to view it.  To change this, go to settings -> Privacy Settings -> Search -> and UN-CLICK the box that says 'Allow indexing'.  Facebook kept this one quite.  Copy into your status for your friends"

kmill23 - 2009-12-15 4:22 PM Now with the new settings, lo and behold, who requests to add me as a friend, but the one person that I do NOT want to have any contact with.  (not a crazy ex, actually my brother and sister-in-law).

What's wrong with just clicking ignore? It's not like it made your whole profile public.

Because next time they see each other in person he's going to get asked the dreaded non-question, "Hey, I sent you a friend request on Facebook..."

Dun dun dun!

Actually I found the setting yesterday when setting it all up again - you can select people who cannot contact you...

When I went to change my settings, FB had a banner stating this "change" was a rumor, and that they had been indexing on Google for several years.  I know a "limited" profile shows up for me when you search for me on Google, so I think that's all it is.

Flipping them isn't recommended. They just get irritated and start filing more lawsuits.

It's usually best to stick with the tried-and-true tactic of yelling "Hey, there's a bunch of ambulances around the corner!".  Guaranteed to make them go away.

I have the best FB non-friend add excuse in the world: "I just use that account to test stuff for BT and advertise the monthly music series I run. Otherwise I don't really use it."

Which is mostly true.
