Subject: Snowed In

Anyone else out there affected by this latest crazy winter storm? We had 12 inches of snow here on Sunday followed by 30 mph winds bringing in these extreme cold temps. We are stuck at home for another day. Police and Fire Departments are urging people not to travel unless it is an emergency and I just saw a photo of a snow plow on its side in a ditch. The parking lots and motels are all full from truck drivers who have had to get off the interstate and find a place to stay until road conditions improve. I'm not sure my kids will get back to school at all this week!

We missed all the snow in Nebraska, but the kids got an extra day off yesterday due to the extreme cold.

I'm just southeast of St. Louis, MO and definitely snowed in.  I am counting snow shoveling as cross-training.

^^^^^^^^ That's just plain wrong.  But I did laugh!

You could always hope for the weather we have had around here.  8-10 inches of snow i think on Fri, followed by enough warming that on Sunday it rained all day and then warmed up to high 50's on Monday.  Now freezing temps 3 degrees on my way to work with sub zero wind chill.  I should start feeling the beginning of a cold in 3-2-1

It was amazing to see all that snow pretty much disappear overnight.

Heat is out in my office. What's funny is the building is owned by a guy who started out in HVAC, and he's waiting for someone to come fix it. Funny working from home, you realize just how little cats move during the day. Basically just enough to keep the patch of sun on their bodies.

I did get up and drive my son to college. It was 4 degrees, -15 wind chill, and public transit is unreliable when it's like this.

It's very cold here, low of -23 this am (not wind chill but actual).   Honestly, it doesn't bother me a lot but I have an attached garage and don't have to walk or take the bus to work.   My employer closed yesterday (Governor closed the state and so my University followed) and I enjoyed running around town with little interference.  I even stopped for fro-yo, which I thought was funny.

I did decide, though, that I FAR prefer the cold over the snowy mess.  The roads aren't perfect here with black ice, etc, but if you're careful it's not an issue.  Snow is so much worse.

It will be nearing 40 this Friday - that is WARM for January.  I am hoping for a good melting of snow.

Kids are again today (this time they are using the institute they were to have on Monday) I stayed home with them since we weren't real sure of the roads. I have a close view of I-57 and it still is not at "normal" speed. I shoveled for four hours on Monday and would have had probably another 4-6 to do on Tuesday but for my wife's insistence we call in the cavalry. (We live on a farm). I wore my Garmin (hey, it's a workout) and it told me I covered almost 2.9 miles. I find that hard to believe, but, oh well. I was really monitoring HR anyway.

Can't run outside in the snow? Think again. I flew up the first hill with surprising ease and power. The Yaktrax gripped into the ice like racing spikes on a rubber track. Sweeeeet.
