Pre-race routine:

got there WAY too early. had to register, so I allowed for extra time, too much time, it was freaking FREEZING. had coffee and cereal/milk/banana 3 hrs before race
Event warmup:

Rob (Lablover) and I walked around to try and stay warm. not easy. the wind off the lake was ferrrrrrrocious

Comments:

up there it says "keeping cool." ha ha ha. I was so happy to have Rob there. What a nice guy. Single BT Women, Rob is a CATCH. We walked for about 1 min at mile 1, 45 seconds at 2, and I walked for 30 right before 30-- I sent Rob on. first mile was around 13:30, I think, slow, but the start was so jammed, we barely ran for the first 3 min. 2nd mile felt smokin', and it was! around 10 min, WITH the walk break. last mile I got nervous bc we came back around the lake and it started snowing and the wind picked up and my lungs hurt (waa waa). Strode out the last .1, and passed a few people. so much for not being into racing!
What would you do differently?:

nothing. Except maybe not do it, I hate that cold!. Actually, it was really fun, and I feel glad I had a pal to do it with, if Rob hadn;t been there it would have SUCKED
Post race
Warm down:

we ate and tried to get warm (yummy jambalaya, tomato soup and way too many handfuls of chips ahoy minis)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

snowy surface was precarious and tough on my calves and feet. I am still in base season, and really wasn;t after "fast" but rather, an event, something to motivate me and remind me that I am an athlete

Event comments:

great food, lots of people-- anything in Madison is fun! I esp liked seeing so many HS cc and track kids out there, lots of HS teams.

FREAKIN IDIOTS! There is no official time for me, no official proof that I even ran this race! Rob finished in 33:04, so I am guessing I came in a bout a minute later.

Wow, Hollis. 12 degrees is bad enough, but add wind and snow and your a superhero.

Nice... and I must admit I think that I don't think I've ever seen someone's race distance be accurate to the 5th decimal place.

Ahh, the midwest winter. You are a better woman than I. Some people are claiming that I scheduled my heart thing so I would have an excuse not to run in Minnesota over christmas...

Rock on you! Glad you enjoyed the race.

Great job esp in bad weather.....but if you hate the cold you are livng in the wrong place...need to find Katherine a position here in FL when she finishes her residency.  then you can train year round!!!

Glad to see someone else from the area partaking in the snowy event. Yah that first downhill push over the snow and wooden bridge was quite a trip. And the finish, painful with the snow in the face, but didn't the kites on ice look great!!!! Good luck on your training and maybe we'll find you and Rob at some races down the road. There is a 5 mile run on New Years Day in Middleton which we'll attempt.
