Pre-race routine:

4:30 wake up, pack up, shower up, dress up and head out by 5 am.
Wow...what a gorgeous early am. Moon was bright, full and lit the path, stars were just classic in filling the sky. Actually wanted to just sit and enjoy but knew I had better leave, watched the moon along the drive. Made good travel time.

tried and true instant oatmeal b-fast.

arrived w/ plenty of time, which helps to reduce my pre reace jitter.Easy way thru the line for number, ended up meeting up w/ isis54 in the tsongas center. Looked for tri-again but couldnt find her amongst the runners.

Event warmup:

Light stretching. more to keep the mind occupied than anything.
Run
  • 1h 58m 34s

Comments:

Ran the course with Isis. She is a wonderful person, made the time fly by, BT is lucky to have folks like her as part of this community. The course was flat, yes, but there were stiff breeezes along sections that presented some challenges.
Able to hit the first 10k in 55min., and felt good about that. Legs felt fresh, pace was comfortable, so was generally able to keep with that. Lots of water stations so didnt have to bring water, I felt good so didnt need fluid. a couple gels along the way helped keep the 'buzz' going.
Nice to finish in a stadium. What a cool feeling...like the olympics!!
Isis easily sprinted by me to catch the lead at the finish to take the BT win!!
I was just glad to have been able to sneak under 2 hrs., very happy with that.

What would you do differently?:

Not a dang thing.
Post race
Warm down:

cooled down, then had a hot flash, then got chilled, temp was up and down, not drastically but could feel it, perhaps the windchill factor, not sure.
Stretched out, grabbed some chow, chit chat w. some other participants, fun to just sit back and listen to the stories of other racers, their experiences and so forth.

Event comments:

Nice, scenic, safe, compact course.

Are you a poet in your other life...you always describe everything with such vivid details!!

Cool that you and Isis could run together....did she stop smiling during the race?
