Seemed there were a couple open spots still available after the on-site registration of the 2008 IM. I am beyond excited to announce that I logged on to the website 3 hours prior and was able to hit refresh 10k times until the link to the registration appeared before my eyes. This will be my first IM and I already have my IM tatto designed.

Any other BT's joining the fun? Any comments about the course?

I am in as well. I am very, very excited and can't wait! THis will be be my third Ironman and i am so excited!
If you go on the website it will compare this IM elevation chart to the others. I love, love that it will be one loop swim, bike and run. Now that's what i'm talking about!!

I'm in too!!!  It will be my first IM.  I was in Seattle last weekend and contemplated making the drive to sign up, but decided it would be too much of a hassle, plus I was there to visit family.  When I saw that there would be spots available online, I took it as a sign that I was meant to do this race.

2009 will be my 5th IM and 3rd time at IMC. It's a fantastic course. One loop for all three legs. Challenging bike that rewards the patient cyclist. Run is an out and back through town and along Skaha lake with a series of rollers into and out of the turn-around.

Penticton is a great venue. The locals are very supportive of the race. If you're not familiar with the area you will likely be very surprised. It's in the heart of Canada's wine and fruit tree region. Lots of lakes, vineyards, and orchards.

X2....went this weekend to support a trainning buddy, volunteer and sign up.

Road the course on Saturday...challenging but GREAT!  Beautiful city!!  Can't wait until next year.

check out http://www.outbackevents.ca/  AWESOME races and race director!  They both do a portion of the IMC route...great training opportunities!

There are lots of current and past race reports here on BT where you might find some good information too. Train hard, but show up well rested. ... and Have Fun!

I signed up on the Saturday before the race, can't wait for next year, I hope the time flies like it did for the 2008 event! One year went by so fast it was insane. Good luck everyone, stay healthy.

I just tried signing up for 09 and it says

"Sorry: Online registration is no longer available for this event! Please search for another event."

WTF? Am I just too early or what, will try again in a few hours...

I thought that if you signed up on Saturday, you get a paper and # and they open up the official registration online later in the month?

I got an e-mail from NAS that there would be a limited registration for online for other than recent competitors...

Hopefully that is the situation for you...

Registration was open on August 29th and stayed open for only 3-4 minutes. I'm not sure how many slots were available, but man did it go fast. I clicked on the link at 8:58 PT (it was suppose to open 9 on the dot) and by the time I finished registering (3 minutes) I refreshed the link and it was closed.

With my luck lately - got into Escape from Alcatraz this year, and getting into IMC - I hope it continues with a safe year of training.

I've signed up as well. Grew up watching the race as my grandfolks live in penticton and always thought about trying it one year. I decided this year is it, so I flew out to penticton for a couple days to visit with the grandparents and stand in line. Got in line at 2 pm on the sunday, was 17th in line. By the time sunday morning rolled around the lineup was insane! The 2008 racers and volunteers get to register first. Even though I was 17th in line for the general entry my registration number was 1389! I know there were at least 800 to 900 people behind me in line so I was surprised to hear some people were able to register online.
Looking forward to a great year.

What is the total number of participants in this race? Also - finding lodging in that city is really really tough!

Do you guys typically fly in to Vancouver and drive or try to fly directly into Penticton? My bet right now is the drive from Vancouver as I have to fly up from Dallas.

Usually there are ~2,400 athletes. Its easiest to fly into Kelowna and take the hour drive to Penticton. Best bet for hotels is to call okanagen reservations. Most hotels will only allow you to book through them during ironman weekend.
